Gaza Division
The Israel Defense Forces Gaza Division (Territorial), is subordinate to the Israeli Southern Command, Southern Regional Command. Its area of operation is the Gaza Strip and the area surrounding it. The division's commander is Brigadier-General Eliezer Toledano. The Gaza Division had been entrusted with the safety and security of Jewish settlers in the Gaza Strip after the Six-Day War in times of peace and armed conflict. In August 2005, the division, along with the rest of the IDF, officially ended its presence in the Gaza Strip as part of Israel's unilateral disengagement plan when Jewish settlements were dismantled. Eliezer Toledano
Eliezer Toledano ( he, אליעזר טולדנו; born 12 October 1973) is an Israeli Aluf (major general) who served as the commander of the Paratroopers Brigade, Military Secretary to the Prime Minister, and the commander of the Gaza Division. He serves as the commander of the Southern Command. Military career In 1990, Toledano became an infantry officer after completing officer candidate school, and was drafted into the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) in 1991. The Israeli disengagement from Gaza ( he, תוכנית ההתנתקות, ') was the unilateral dismantling in 2005 of the 21 Israeli settlements in the Gaza Strip and the evacuation of Israeli settlers and army from inside the Gaza Strip. The Desert Reconnaissance Battalion (DRB) (also known as Unit 585 or the Bedouin Battalion) is a unit of the Israel Defense Forces.
