''Gaun Gaun Bata Utha'' () is a Nepali-language revolutionary song by music duo Raamesh and Rayan and written and composed by Shyam Tamot. The song is also known as ''Sankalpa'' (resolution/ vow) song. The song has been translated into 17 national and foreign languages including Chinese, French and Hindi. The song served as an anthem during the 1979 Nepalese student protests as well as many other protests in Nepal. Raameshwor Shrestha (Nepali:रामेश्वर श्रेष्ठ), popularly known by the name of Raamesh, is a progressive songwriter and singer of Nepal. He is most popular for his song Gaun Gaun Bata Utha. Biography Shrestha was born in Palpa district. He was brought up in Doti and schooled in Sindhupalchok and Kathmandu. Nepathya
Nepathya (, also spelled as Nepathaya) is a Nepalese folk rock band that was formed in the early 1990s. Nepathya was formed by Deepak Rana, Bhim Poon and Amrit Gurung while studying in Kathmandu, Nepal. The band has enjoyed both commercial and critical success. Nepathya are known for their contemporary songs with strong ties to indigenous music and lyrics using dialects from rural Nepal. During their musical career, Nepathya has toured countries like UK, the US, Australia, Japan, Israel, Germany, Finland, India and many more. The 1990 People's Movement () was a multiparty movement in Nepal that brought an end to absolute monarchy and the beginning of constitutional monarchy. It also eliminated the Panchayat system. The movement was marked by the unity between the various political parties. Not only did various Communist parties group together in the United Left Front (ULF), but they also cooperated with parties such as Nepali Congress (NC). One result of this unity was the formation of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist). Narayan Bhakta Shrestha (Nepali:नारायण भक्त्त श्रेष्ठ), popularly known by the name of Rayan, is a progressive songwriter and singer of Nepal. He was one of four members of musical group Ralpha. Biography Shrestha was born in Okhaldhunga district in a Newar family. He had a musical influence from his father who was an active proponent of Newar culture such as festivals, language and music. In childhood, Shrestha played in traditional theatre. At the age of 19, he was selected as a singer in Radio Nepal to sing folk songs. He worked there for four years. After sensing corroption in the organization, he left Radio Nepal and formed the musical group Ralpha in the leadership of Parijat in 2019 BS.
