Gareth Huw Evans
Gareth Huw Evans (born April 6, 1980) is a Welsh film director, screenwriter, editor, and action choreographer. He is best known for the Indonesian action crime films ''Merantau'' (2009), '' The Raid'' (2011), and ''The Raid 2'' (2014), and for bringing the Indonesian martial art of pencak silat into world cinema through these films. He is also known for co-creating, co-writing, co-directing, and executive producing the Sky Atlantic/AMC action crime drama television series '' Gangs of London'' (2020–present), alongside Matt Flannery, based on the 2006 video game of the same name. Early life Evans was born and raised in Hirwaun, Cynon Valley. He graduated from the University of Glamorgan (now the University of South Wales) with an MA in screenwriting. Hirwaun
Hirwaun (, ; ) is a village and Community (Wales), community at the north end of the Cynon Valley in the County Borough of Rhondda Cynon Taf, South Wales. It is NW of the town of Aberdare, and comes under the Aberdare post town. At the United Kingdom Census 2001, 2001 census, Hirwaun had a population of 4,851; increasing at the 2011 census to 4,990. The village is on the Heads of the Valleys Road and at the southern edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park. Etymology Hirwaun (also formerly spelled as Hirwain, Herwain and Hyrwen) derives from two common Welsh toponymy, Welsh toponyms: ''hir'' meaning "long" and 'gwaun'' (mutated to ''waun'') meaning moorland. Writing in 1887, Thomas Morgan (Afanwyson), Thomas Morgan stated that the correct name is ''Hirwaun Gwrgant'', meaning Gwrgan's "gwaun". ''Gangs of London'' is a 2006 action-adventure video game developed by London Studio and published by Sony Computer Entertainment for the PlayStation Portable. It is the third installment in the ''Getaway'' series, following '' The Getaway'' (2002) and '' Black Monday'' (2004). The player has the choice to play as one of five different gangs within London, with different ethnicities and outfits. ''Havoc'' is a 2025 action thriller film written and directed by Gareth Evans. The film stars Tom Hardy, Jessie Mei Li, Justin Cornwell, Quelin Sepulveda, Luis Guzmán, Yeo Yann Yann, Timothy Olyphant, and Forest Whitaker. It is a co-production between the United States and the United Kingdom. The film was released by Netflix on April 25, 2025. The DC Extended Universe (DCEU) is an American media franchise and shared universe centered on a series of superhero films distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. It is based on characters that appear in American comic books published by DC Comics. The DCEU also includes comic books, short films, novels, and video games. Like the original DC Universe in comic books, the DCEU is established by Crossover (fiction), crossing over common plot elements, settings, cast, and characters. Deathstroke is a character appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. Created by Marv Wolfman and George Pérez, the character first appeared in ''The New Teen Titans'' #2 (December 1980) as Deathstroke the Terminator.
