Gamma (band)
Gamma was an American hard rock band formed by guitarist Ronnie Montrose and singer Davey Pattison in San Francisco in 1979. They released four albums: '' Gamma 1'' (1979), '' Gamma 2'' (1980), '' Gamma 3'' (1982) (all on Elektra Records) and ''Gamma 4'' (2000). Their biggest hit was 1982's "Right the First Time", which was a minor chart entry in the US, but a top 40 hit in Canada. Some of their other best known songs include "Fight to the Finish" from their first album, and "Meanstreak" and "Voyager" from the second album. History Original incarnation (1979–1983) Ronnie Montrose put the band together after having released a solo album '' Open Fire'' in 1978, after having disbanded the hard rock band Montrose in 1977. Robin Trower
Robin Leonard Trower (born 9 March 1945) is an English rock guitarist who achieved success with Procol Harum throughout 1967–1971 and then again as the bandleader of his own power trio known as the Robin Trower Band. Biography Robin Trower was born in Catford, London, England, and grew up in Southend-on-Sea, Essex. In 1962, he formed a band that became the Paramounts, later including Westcliff High School pupil Gary Brooker. The Paramounts disbanded in 1966 to pursue individual projects. During this time, Trower created a local three-piece band called the Jam (not to be confused with The Jam, the later group with Paul Weller). Trower then, in June 1967, joined Brooker's new band Procol Harum following the success of their debut May 1967 single "A Whiter Shade of Pale", and remained with them until mid 1971, appearing on the group's first five albums. "Something in the Air" is the debut single by British rock band Thunderclap Newman, written by Speedy Keen who also provided lead vocals. It was a No. 1 single for three weeks in the UK Singles Chart in July 1969. The song has been used for films, television and advertisements, and has been covered by several artists. Thunderclap Newman were a British rock band that Pete Townshend of the Who and Kit Lambert formed in 1969 in a bid to showcase the talents of John "Speedy" Keen, Jimmy McCulloch, and Andy "Thunderclap" Newman. Their single, " Something in the Air", a 1969 UK number one hit, remains in demand for television commercials, film soundtracks and compilations. Mick Haggerty is an English graphic designer, illustrator, art director, video director and artist. Haggerty has received four Grammy Award nominations for Best Recording Package for the album Worship and Tribute and in 1980 was jointly awarded, with Mike Doud, the Grammy for Supertramp's ''Breakfast in America'' (1979). He also received a Grammy nomination for Best Music Video (short form) in 1986 for ''The Daryl Hall and John Oates Video Collection''. ''Open Fire'' is the debut studio album by American musician, guitarist and session musician Ronnie Montrose, released in 1978. The album contains jazz, rock and acoustic music concepts similar to those of ''Blow by Blow'' (1975) by Jeff Beck. Ronnie hints in previous Montrose releases that he was heading for a solo career. Songs like "Whaler" and "One And a Half" from '' Warner Brothers Presents... Montrose!'' and "Tuft-Sedge" and "Merry-Go-Round" from '' Jump On It'' contained various acoustic, synthesizer and string elements that showed Ronnie was looking to branch out from his hard rock persona.
