Gabala International Music Festival
Gabala International Music Festival is an annual festival of classical music held every summer beginning in 2009 in Qabala, Gabala, Azerbaijan. The festival is organised with the support of Heydar Aliyev Foundation at the initiative of the rector of the Baku Academy of Music Farhad Badalbeyli and conductor Dmitri Yablonski. At this festival, musicians perform in the open air. Participants have included musicians from Europe, the United States, US and Israel, as well as musicians from republics of the former Soviet Union, USSR. In 2009, a contest of young pianists was held at the same time with the musical festival. Jazz and mugham evenings were held along with classical music concerts. In 2010, the festival was held on August. General director of UNESCO Irina Bokova was in the opening ceremony of the festival. Qabala
Qabala () is a city and the administrative centre of the Qabala District of Azerbaijan. The municipality consists of the city of Gabala and the village of Küsnət, Qabala, Küsnat. Before the city was known as Kutkashen, but after the Republic of Azerbaijan's independence the town was renamed in honour of the much older city of Gabala, the former capital of Caucasian Albania, the archaeological site of which is about 20 km southwest. Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra
The Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra (JPO) is Johannesburg's leading Philharmonic Orchestra. The chair of the Board of Directors is Mr Justice Dikgang Moseneke, and the CEO and Artistic Director is Bongani Tembe. Tembe was appointed in 2015. He combines this with his role as Artistic Director of the Kwazulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra. The JPO presents four symphony seasons each year at the Linder Auditorium at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg. The orchestra has a community engagement programme, which sees it perform at schools in Soweto and other townships in Gauteng. The JPO also supports other music genres, including ballet and opera. Fikret Mashadi Jamil oghlu Amirov (November 22, 1922February 20, 1984) was a prominent Soviet and Azerbaijani composer. Biography Early life and education Originally from Shusha, Fikret Amirov was born on November 22, 1922, in the family of Mashadi Jamil Amirov and Mrs. Durdane, in the city of Ganja. Fikrat was the second child of the family. Since childhood, Fikret listened to his singer and father's works, especially his music. His formation as a composer was influenced by the artists that live at that time. Fikret Amirov notes in his memoirs that " Azerbaijani tar made me a composer." He adds "The eye of the Azerbaijani musical instruments is tar. Tar is not only an instrument for its harmony, timbre, diapason, strength, as though it replaces the orchestra". Dmitry Albertovich Yablonsky (; born 1962) is a Soviet-born American-israeli classical cellist and conductor, who was educated at the Juilliard School of Music and Yale University. Early life and education Yablonsky was born in Moscow into a musical family, his mother is famed pianist Oxana Yablonskaya and his father is Albert Zayonts, who was solo oboe of the Radio and Television orchestra in Moscow for 30 years. Boris Vadimovich Berezovsky (; born 4 January 1969) is a Russian pianist. Biography Berezovsky's original name was Elyashberg, Boris Vadimovich. His parents changed the last name to Berezovsky when he was seven years old. He studied at the Moscow Conservatory with Eliso Virsaladze and privately with Alexander Satz.
