GIT Award
The GIT Award (short for Getintothis Award) was an annual English music prize recognising new and emerging music from Liverpool and the wider Merseyside region, awarded from 2012 to 2017. The award was established by the Liverpool-based music blog ''Getintothis'' in response to the revitalisation of the city's music scene following Liverpool's designation as European Capital of Culture in 2008. The award was described as a "Scouse Mercury Prize" by ''Getintothis'' editor Peter Guy ahead of its official launch in November 2011. This comparison was widely used throughout the award's existence, including in national media outlets such as BBC, The Guardian, and NME. The award was held annually for six editions; however, no ceremony took place in 2018 or in subsequent years. The Skinny (magazine)
''The Skinny'' is a monthly free magazine distributed in venues throughout the cities of Dundee, Edinburgh and Glasgow in Scotland. Founded in 2005, the magazine features interviews and articles on music, art, film, comedy and other aspects of culture across Scotland and beyond. History ''The Skinny'' was founded and launched in 2005 as a free Edinburgh and Glasgow listings magazine. Mugstar
Mugstar are an English rock band, influenced by kraut/psych/space/noise rock such as Oneida, Sonic Youth, Neu! and Hawkwind. Since 2003 they have issued several full-length albums, a split release with Mudhoney and two live albums performing on stage together with Damo Suzuki. Mugstar recorded one of the last-ever Peel Sessions with the late John Peel on 5 May 2004. The Justice Collective
The Justice Collective was a collective of musicians and celebrities. The project is spearheaded by Peter Hooton of the Farm. It was originally established in 2012 as a fund-raising record raising money for the various charities associated with the Hillsborough disaster. It is best known for its charity single "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother" in 2012. A closely related collective known as the Peace Collective released the charity single " All Together Now" in 2014. The Justice Tonight Band After the News International phone hacking scandal, members of the Farm along with Pete Wylie and Mick Jones of the Clash performed at an anti-''The Sun'' concert at the Liverpool Olympia in September 2011. Wave Machines
Wave Machines was an English art pop band formed in Liverpool in 2007. The band released singles "The Greatest Escape We Ever Made" and "I Go I Go I Go" on Chess Club Records before signing with Neapolitan Music Limited in 2008. Three further singles, "Keep The Lights On", a newly recorded version of "I Go I Go I Go" and "Punk Spirit" followed. The band's debut album ''Wave If You're Really There'' was released in June 2009. It received favourable reviews from NME. Jetta (full name Jetta John-Hartley) is a singer-songwriter and record producer from Liverpool who is based in London. Early life When she was 15 years old, Jetta was gifted the music editing software Logic on which she taught herself to produce music. Daniel Francis Croll (born 18 July 1990) is an English singer-songwriter. He is known for his songs "From Nowhere," "Compliment Your Soul," "Home," and "Yesterday." Often associated with indie pop and folktronica, his work also spans indie folk, folk-pop, rock music, and 1970s-style R&B and soft rock. In 2011 he was named Songwriter of the Year by the Musicians' Benevolent Fund while attending the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts. Conan (band)
Conan are a British doom/sludge metal band from Liverpool whose style is characterised by a heavily distorted and downtuned sound. It has been described as "caveman battle doom". History Conan was founded as a two piece by guitarist/singer Jon Davis in 2006, with Richie Grundy on drums. Following the departure of Grundy, Paul O'Neil took over on drums before the band went on nearly a year-long hiatus. Once activity resumed, the band added the position of bass guitarist and went through several musicians before Chris Fielding joined in 2013. Longtime drummer O'Neil, who had performed on both of the band's full-length albums, was replaced by Rich Lewis in 2014. Clinic (band)
Clinic are an English rock band, formed in 1993 in Crosby, Liverpool by frontman Ade Blackburn, guitarist Jonathan Hartley, bassist Brian Campbell and drummer Carl Turney. The band were originally named Pure Morning. Following the release of '' Free Reign'' in 2012 the band went on a seven year break before returning with ''Wheeltappers and Shunters'', the first album written solely by Blackburn and Hartley. The band's latest album ''Fantasy Island'' only features Blackburn and Hartley, with press shots confirming the departure of Campbell and Turney. Baltic Fleet (band)
Baltic Fleet is the work of Warrington-based musician Paul Fleming. Baltic Fleet released his self-titled debut album in 2008 on UK independent label Blow Up Records. The album was named in Rough Trade's top 50 albums of 2008 at number 29. Fleming produced the album using a laptop and any instruments that came to hand whilst he toured with Liverpool post punk band Echo & The Bunnymen. Fleming has also played keyboards on Echo & The Bunnymen studio albums ''Siberia'' and ''The Fountain''. Baltic Fleet influences include Brian Eno's album '' My Life in the Bush of Ghosts'', David Bowie's album ''Low'', Neu!, The Virgin Suicides and Erik Satie. John Robb (musician)
John David Robb (born 4 May 1961) is an English musician and journalist. He is the bassist and singer for the post-punk band the Membranes. He is also the vocalist in the punk rock band Goldblade. He writes for and runs the '' Louder Than War'' website and a monthly music magazine of the same name. He has written several books on music and occasionally makes media appearances as a music commentator.
