The GE ES59ACi, also known as the HXN5 () or China Mainline Locomotive, is a type of diesel-electric locomotive built by GE Transportation and CRRC Qishuyan for use on freight trains from Harbin to Qiqihar and Mudanjiang in China. In October 2005, China Railway ordered 700 ES59ACi Evolution Series locomotives from GE Transportation and CRRC Qishuyan for delivery in 2008–2009. Two have been built at Erie, Pennsylvania, in 2008; the rest were assembled by Qishuyan at Changzhou in 2008–2010. The first Chinese made loco was unveiled on 25 November 2008. The initial order was reduced from 700 to an actual 300 units produced. The locomotive is equipped with a GE GEVO-16 engine, with an output of . Railway Locomotives Introduced In 2008
Rail transport (also known as train transport) is a means of transport using wheeled vehicles running in tracks, which usually consist of two parallel steel rails. Rail transport is one of the two primary means of land transport, next to road transport. It is used for about 8% of passenger and freight transport globally, thanks to its energy efficiency and potentially high speed.Rolling stock on rails generally encounters lower frictional resistance than rubber-tyred road vehicles, allowing rail cars to be coupled into longer trains. Power is usually provided by diesel or electric locomotives. While railway transport is capital-intensive and less flexible than road transport, it can carry heavy loads of passengers and cargo with greater energy efficiency and safety. Precursors of railways driven by human or animal power have existed since antiquity, but modern rail transport began with the invention of the steam locomotive in the United Kingdom at the beginning of the 19 ...

Co′Co′ Locomotives
Co-Co is the wheel arrangement for Diesel locomotive, diesel and electric locomotives with two six-wheeled bogies with all axles powered, with a separate traction motor per axle. The equivalent UIC classification of locomotive axle arrangements, UIC classification (Europe) for this arrangement is Co′Co′, or C-C for AAR wheel arrangement#C-C, AAR (North America). Use Co-Cos are most suited to freight work as the extra wheels give them good Traction (engineering), traction. They are also popular because the greater number of axles results in a lower axle load to the track. History The first mainline diesel-electric locomotives were of Bo-Bo arrangement. As they grew in power and weight, from 1937 the EMD E-units used an A1A-A1A layout with six axles to reduce axle load. After WWII, the British London, Midland and Scottish Railway, LMS ordered British Rail Class D16/1, two prototype locomotives with some of the first Co-Co arrangements. The first C-C design recorded w ...

GE C36-7
The GE C36-7 is a 6-axle diesel-electric locomotive built by GE Transportation Systems, GE do Brazil and UGL Rail, A Goninan & Co between 1978 and 1989. It is an updated GE U36C with a 16-cylinder FDL engine, externally similar to the GE C30-7 but with larger air intakes under the radiators. The dynamic brakes grids of later units are located in a high box behind the cab. C36-7s were constructed with either 3,600 or 3,750 hp power plants. Production history 599 examples of this locomotive were built, 422 of which were exported to the People's Republic of China, where it is designated as the China Railways ND5. GE do Brazil built 15 C36-7s for Ferrocarriles Nacionales de México, numbers 9327–9341. The three Hamersley & Robe River railway, Hamersley Iron units built by UGL Rail, A Goninan & Co were exported to the United States in the late 1990s after being withdrawn from service in Australia, and were later sold to various railway companies. GE Dash 9-44CW
The GE C44-9W is a diesel-electric locomotive built by GE Transportation Systems of Erie, Pennsylvania. Keeping in tradition with GE's locomotive series nicknames beginning with the "Dash 7" of the 1970s, the C44-9W was dubbed the Dash 9 upon its debut in 1993. Part of GE's "Dash 9" series of locomotives, the Dash 9-44CW shares its frame, HiAd trucks, 16-cylinder 7FDL engine, and 752AH-31 traction motors with the GE Dash 9-40CW. But while the more common 9-44CW offers 4,400 horsepower (3,300 kW), software in the 9-40CW's engine-governing unit restricts its power output to 4,000 horsepower (3,000 kW). The design has since proven popular with North American railroads, although some railroads, such as CSX and Canadian Pacific, preferred its AC equivalent, the AC4400CW. Because of more stringent emissions requirements that came into effect in the United States on January 1, 2005, the Dash 9-44CW has been replaced in production by the GE ES44DC. Many North American ...
