Futility, Or The Wreck Of The Titan
''Futility'' is a novella written by Morgan Robertson, first published in 1898. It was revised as ''The Wreck of the Titan'' in 1912. It features a fictional American ocean liner named ''Titan'' that sinks in the North Atlantic Ocean after striking an iceberg. The ''Titan'' and its sinking are famous for their similarities to the real-life passenger ship and sinking of the RMS Titanic, its sinking 14 years later. Following the sinking of the ''Titanic'' the novel was reissued with some changes, particularly to the ship's displacement. Plot The first half of ''Futility'' introduces the ''Titan'', described as the longest and fastest ship in the world that is also considered unsinkable, and the hero John Rowland, a disgraced former US Navy officer who was dismissed from the service. Futility (poem)
"Futility" is a poem written by Wilfred Owen, one of the most renowned poets of World War I. The poem was written in May 1918 and published as no. 153 in ''The Complete Poems and Fragments''. The poem is well known for its departure from Owen's famous style of including disturbing and graphic images in his work; the poem instead has a more soothing, somewhat light-hearted feel to it in comparison. "Futility" details an event where a group of soldiers attempts to revive an unconscious soldier by moving him into the warm sunlight on a snowy meadow. However, the "kind old sun" cannot help the soldier – he has died. The titular theme of the poem is claimed to be common to many World War I and World War II war poets and to apply not only to war, but human institutions (including religion) and human existence itself. Futile (EP)
The following is a listing of officially released works by the English band Porcupine Tree. The band has released eleven major studio albums and 7 EPs, as well as many limited editions and revamped material. At the time Steven Wilson was going to sign to the Delerium label, he owned a lot of material recorded during the mid- and later '80s that he had recorded subsequently on three demo tapes - '' Tarquin's Seaweed Farm'', ''Love, Death & Mussolini'' and '' The Nostalgia Factory''. He sent copies of those tapes to people he felt would be interested in the recordings, asking them to spread the word. Delerium originally intended to release all of that material in a double debut album, but Wilson decided to just pick the songs he considered the best ones. These songs were mastered to make Porcupine Tree's first studio album, '' On the Sunday of Life...'' (1992); all of the leftover tracks would be later released on a compilation album called '' Yellow Hedgerow Dreamscape'' (1994). ...
