Fromage (special)
''Fromage'' is an annual Canadian one-hour special produced by the MuchMusic cable channel. ''Fromage'' paid "tribute" to music videos considered the worst or cheesiest of the year by MuchMusic staff. History The special was created in 1988 by songwriter (and MuchMusic VJ) Christopher Ward. Christopher hosted the show for the first several years, playing the part of a French stereotype called Charles De Camembert. Later Natalie Richard joined as co-host. From 1997, the program was hosted by MuchMusic's acerbic puppet VJ Ed the Sock, created and voiced by Steven Joel Kerzner. The show traditionally aired during the Christmas season as a part of special annual programming dubbed the "Holiday Wrap", and features a countdown of the worst music videos of the year, with humorously cynical (and sometimes profane) commentary from Ed along the way. "I Believe in a Thing Called Love" is a song by English rock band the Darkness, released as the third single from their debut studio album, '' Permission to Land''. When released as a single in September 2003, it peaked at number two on the UK Singles Chart. The song also charted worldwide, becoming a top-10 hit in Ireland, New Zealand, and Sweden, as well as on the US ''Billboard'' Modern Rock Tracks chart. Background and release "I Believe in a Thing Called Love" was originally issued as a 3-track EP in August 2002; however, as only a small number of copies were printed, it was ineligible to chart. The EP also included early versions of "Love on the Rocks with No Ice" and " Love Is Only a Feeling". Don Cherry (ice Hockey)
Donald Stewart Cherry (born February 5, 1934) is a Canadian former ice hockey player, coach, and television commentator. He played one game in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Boston Bruins. After concluding a playing career in the American Hockey League, he coached the Bruins for five seasons leading the team to four division titles and two appearances in the Stanley Cup Finals. From 1986 to 2019, Cherry co-hosted '' Coach's Corner''—a segment aired during CBC's Saturday-night NHL broadcast ''Hockey Night in Canada'', with Ron MacLean. BKS was a Canadian techno group created by radio DJ Chris Sheppard, with Hennie Bekker and Greg Kavanagh (BKS = Bekker, Kavanagh, Sheppard). They were best known for collaborating with hockey personality Don Cherry to create the song "Rock Em Sock Em Techno". History BKS worked with Don Cherry on the song "Rock Em Sock Em Techno". The resulting video was named by MuchMusic as the worst video of 1993; however, the video sold in excess of 550,000 copies. BKS recorded three albums of contemporary techno. In 1993, the group released the single "Dreamcatcher", which was a hit on the Canadian Dance chart. The song's music video was nominated for a MuchMusic Video Award for "Best Dance Music Video". ''Video on Trial'' is a Canadian comedy television program that airs on Canadian television network MuchMusic. The show consists of a panel of musicians, comedians, and entertainment columnists critiquing five different music videos in a courtroom-esque manner. The panel acts as the jurors, poking fun at and questioning each artist's behaviour in each video. Artists' personal lives and off-set behaviour are usually mocked by the critics in relation to the music video. They are shown in separate clips to use their opinions. Since its debut on August 15, 2005, the show has become one of the most highly rated and successful shows on MuchMusic, attracting a dedicated cult following and has garnered a Gemini Award nomination. CHCH-DT (channel 11) is an independent television station in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Owned by Channel Zero, the station maintains studios on Innovation Drive in the west end of Hamilton; prior to 2021, it was located near the corner of Jackson and Caroline streets in downtown Hamilton for nearly 65 years. The station has additional offices at the Marriott on the Falls in Niagara Falls, Ontario. Its old transmitter was located on First Road West in the former city of Stoney Creek; it was demolished in March 2024 and replaced with a new transmitter located on Highway 5 near Millgrove Side Road in Dundas, Ontario, which started transmitting in November 2023.
