Fred Fitzgibbon
Fred Fitzgibbon (22 October 1917 – 24 January 1999) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Carlton in the Victorian Football League (VFL) during the 1940s. Fitzgibbon spent his early career at Victorian Football Association (VFA) club Brunswick but when the VFA suspended the competition in 1942 due to the war, he decided to switch leagues and joined Carlton. Used mainly as a wingman, Fitzgibbon became one of Carlton's most physically aggressive players which at times saw him front the tribunal. The most notable suspensions came in the 1945 finals series and began with a four-match suspension for king-hitting Collingwood forward Len Hustler in the Preliminary Final, which meant he had to watch that year's premiership from the stands. Brunswick Football Club
Brunswick Football Club was an Australian rules football club which played in the Victorian Football Association (VFA) from 1897 until 1991. Based in Brunswick, Victoria, for most of their time in the Association they were known as the Magpies, and wore black and white guernseys. In its final two seasons in the VFA, it was known as Brunswick-Broadmeadows. History Brunswick Football Club was formed in 1865 and joined the VFA in the 1897 season. The Essendon Football Club, nicknamed the Bombers, is a professional Australian rules football club. The club plays in the Australian Football League (AFL), the game's premier competition. The club was formed by the McCracken family in their Ascot Vale home "Alisa", and while the exact date is unknown, it is generally accepted to have been in 1872. The 1947 VFL Grand Final was an Australian rules football match contested between the Carlton Football Club and Essendon Football Club, held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on 27 September 1947. It was the 49th annual Grand Final of the Victorian Football League, staged to determine the premiers for the 1947 VFL season. The match, attended by 85,793 spectators, was won by Carlton by one point, marking that club's eighth VFL premiership. Ted Whitfield
Edward Carlyle Whitfield (13 June 1916 – 7 September 1993) was an Australian rules footballer, playing with South Melbourne Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Born in North Melbourne, Whitfield was recruited by South Melbourne from Victorian Football Association (VFA) side Coburg Football Club and made his VFL debut in Round 12, 1939 against Carlton at Lake Oval, South Melbourne's home ground. A wingman, Whitfield was considered a live wire, both on the ground and off, who appeared "to march to a different drum." Jim Mooring
James Teague Mooring (14 October 191720 October 2007) was an Australian rules footballer in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Early life Mooring, the son of James Wilfred Mooring and Ellen Adelaide Mooring, nee Teague, was originally from Piangil (near Swan Hill). Mooring was a natural sportsman. His sporting talents extended also to tennis, cricket, billiards and golf. Mooring was originally invited to train with , but the club failed to find him job so he returned to Piangil. Searching for work Mooring moved to Creswick and played with Maryborough in the Bendigo Football League.
