Flipper (franchise)
The ''Flipper'' franchise consists of American family-adventure installments including three theatrical films, and two television shows. Based on original an original story created by Arthur Weiss, Ricou Browning and Jack Cowden, the plot centers around a family who becomes friends with a notably intelligent bottlenose dolphin they rescued from injuries, which they name Flipper. Through the events of the franchise, Flipper regularly gives aid to his human friends and selflessly comes to their rescue to return the favor. The franchise as a whole was met with mixed critical and financial reception, with each installment faring diversly. ''Flipper and Lopaka'' is an Australian animated series produced by the Yoram Gross companies: Yoram Gross-Village Roadshow (in Season 1) and Yoram Gross-EM.TV (in Seasons 2 and 3). Henry Ossian Flipper
Henry Ossian Flipper (March 21, 1856 – April 26, 1940) was an American soldier, engineer, former slave and in 1877, the first African American to graduate from the United States Military Academy at West Point, earning a commission as a second lieutenant in the United States Army. He was also an author who wrote about scientific topics and his life experiences. After his commissioning, he was assigned to one of the all-black regiments in the U.S. Army, which were historically led by white officers. Assigned to 'A' Troop under the command of Captain Nicholas M. Nolan, he became the first nonwhite officer to lead buffalo soldiers of the 10th Cavalry. Flipper served with competency and distinction during the Apache Wars and the Victorio Campaign, but was plagued by rumors alleging improprieties. ''Flipper'' (also known as ''Flipper – The New Adventures'') is an American revival television series of the original 1964 ''Flipper'' television series. The first two seasons aired in first-run syndication; seasons three and four aired on the PAX network. The series was set in a town named Bal Harbor that was supposed to be in the Florida Keys region (an actual town in Florida has a similar name, Bal Harbour, Florida just north of the City of Miami Beach). It was largely filmed, though, in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. ''Flipper's New Adventure'' (known in some countries as ''Flipper and the Pirates'') is a 1964 American feature film released on June 24, 1964 by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, written by Art Arthur, and directed by Leon Benson. ''Flipper'' is a 1963 American adventure film written by Arthur Weiss based upon a story by Ricou Browning and Jack Cowden. Produced by Ivan Tors and directed by James B. Clark (director), James B. Clark, the film centers on a 12-year-old boy living with his parents in the Florida Keys who befriends an injured wild dolphin. The boy and the dolphin become inseparable, eventually overcoming the misgivings of the boy's fisherman father. Willie Lee "Flipper" Anderson Jr. (born March 7, 1965) is an American former professional American football, football player who was a wide receiver in the National Football League (NFL), primarily with the Los Angeles Rams. He played college football for the UCLA Bruins football, UCLA Bruins and was selected by the Rams in the second round of the 1988 NFL draft. Anderson played in the NFL for the Rams (1988–1994), the Indianapolis Colts (1995), the Washington Redskins (1996), and the Denver Broncos (1997).
