Flipper (1995 TV Series)
''Flipper'' (also known as ''Flipper – The New Adventures'') is an American revival television series of the original 1964 ''Flipper'' television series. The first two seasons aired in first-run syndication; seasons three and four aired on the PAX network. The series was set in a town named Bal Harbor that was supposed to be in the Florida Keys region (an actual town in Florida has a similar name, Bal Harbour, Florida just north of the City of Miami Beach). It was largely filmed, though, in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. The show's first three episodes were filmed in Pigeon Key, Florida, and at the Dolphin Research Center in Grassy Key, Florida, however two of the three episodes aired toward the end of the first season. The series is unrelated to the 1996 film of the same title, which was also a remake of the 1960s TV series and films. Flipper (1964 TV Series)
''Flipper'' is an American television program broadcast on NBC from September 19, 1964, until April 15, 1967. Flipper, a bottlenose dolphin, is the pet of Porter Ricks, chief warden at Coral Key Park and Marine Preserve (a fictional version of John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park in Key Largo, Florida), and his two young sons, Sandy and Bud. The show has been dubbed an "aquatic ''Lassie (1954 TV series), Lassie''", and a considerable amount of children's merchandise inspired by the show was produced during its first run. Production The television show is an extension of the 1963 film ''Flipper (1963 film), Flipper'' starring Chuck Connors and Luke Halpin as Porter and Sandy Ricks, and of its 1964 sequel, ''Flipper's New Adventure''. Alan Dale
Alan Hugh Dale (born 6 May 1947) is a New Zealand actor. As a child, Dale enjoyed theatre and rugby. After retiring from the sport, he took on a number of occupations, before deciding to become a professional actor at age 27. Dale subsequently moved to Australia, where he played Dr. John Forrest in '' The Young Doctors'' from 1979 to 1982. Grassy Key, Florida
Grassy Key, Florida, is an island in the middle Florida Keys. It is located on U.S. 1 (or the Overseas Highway), near mile markers 57—60, below the Conch Keys. It has an area of 3.65 km², with a population of 974 as of the census 2000. It is one of the northernmost islands in a chain of islands that comprises the City of Marathon, Florida. The island or "key"—as the islands are called in parts of Florida—hosts many mom-and-pop-type family resorts - oceanside and bayside, as well as many private residences, although the key itself is sparsely populated in comparison to the original City of Marathon "proper" farther south. Dolphin Research Center
The Dolphin Research Center (DRC) is a dolphinarium on Grassy Key, Florida. The series of saltwater lagoons is home to several dolphins and California sea lions. History Fisherman Milton Santini opened Santini's Porpoise School in 1958, which he operated until 1972. Santini blasted lagoons into the seashore with dynamite to create deeper pens for the dolphins. One of Santini's dolphins, Mitzi, starred in the film '' Flipper''. The property was sold and renamed as Flipper's Sea School in 1972 and operated under this name until 1977. At this point, it was purchased by Jean Paul Fortom-Gouin. Fortom-Gouin closed the property to the public, running it as the Institute for Delphinid Research until 1983. Pigeon Key, Florida
Pigeon Key is a small island containing the historic district of Pigeon Key, Florida. The island is home to 8 buildings on the National Register of Historic Places, some of which remain from its earliest incarnation as a work camp for the Florida East Coast Railway. Today these buildings serve a variety of purposes, ranging from housing for educational groups to administrative offices for the non-profit Pigeon Key Foundation.
