Flames United SC
Flames United SC is a Sint Maarten football club that currently plays in the SMSA Senior League, the highest level of football on Dutch Sint Maarten. The club's home ground is the Raoul Illidge Sports Complex in Philipsburg, the country's capital. The club also fields a futsal team. The current manager is Omar Hunter and the current team captain is Loxley Parker. History Flames United Sports Club was founded in January 2010. The team won its first league championship in 2015. The club also finished the Excellence Division, a competition between the top teams from the islands of Sint Maarten, Saint Martin and St. Barths, as champions in 2013 and runners-up in 2012. In January 2016 it was announced that the Flames United squad would play as the Sint Maarten national football team during 2017 Caribbean Cup qualification after winning the league championship for the recently concluded season. Raoul Illidge Sports Complex is a multi-use stadium in Philipsburg, Sint Maarten, Philipsburg, Sint Maarten. It is currently used mostly for football (soccer), football matches. The stadium holds 3,000 people. The stadium is located on the Dutch side of the island. History The Sint Maarten national football team plays its home matches at the stadium, which has a capacity of 3,000 spectators. It is named after Raoul Illidge, a local philanthropist who laid the groundwork and covered many expenses in the planning of the stadium as part of his support for sport and culture on the island. Alec Harris
Alexander Frederick Harris (1897–1974) was a Welsh Spiritualist medium. Biography Harris was born in Treherbert, Wales. As a young man he joined the army as World War I (1914–18) began. He married in 1928 and in the 1930s was introduced to Spiritualism. He attended séances with the medium Helen Duncan which he was convinced were genuine. After attending other séances he became a medium himself and claimed the ability to materialize spirit guides. Harris would only work in dark conditions with a cabinet in a curtained-off alcove from his audience where the spirits were reported to emerge. In the 1940s it was stated by spiritualists that he could materialize as many as 15 to 30 spirits in a single séance. He later moved to South Africa to resume a career as a medium. Djai Essed (born 25 April 1998) is a St. Maartener footballer who plays for the Sint Maarten national team. Youth career In 2009, Essed played in the School Division of the St. Maarten Soccer Educational Foundation (SMSEF) for Sister Magda '98. That year, the team defeated the Caribbean International Academy to win the top division championship. That season, Essed was the top division's top scorer with 11 goals. Essed played for MPC Stars FC of the SMSEF youth league while attending Milton Peters College. Rohan Taylor is the head coach of the Australian Dolphins swimming team and formerly State Head Coach for swimming in Victoria and Tasmania. He was the performance coach of the Nunawading Swimming Club based in Melbourne, Australia.
