Fitzroy SC (1966–1973)
Fitzroy Soccer Club was an Australian association football, association football (soccer) club based in the inner-northern Melbourne suburb of Fitzroy, Victoria, Fitzroy. The club was founded in 1966 by the Italian community of Melbourne, local Italian community and competed in the National Premier Leagues Victoria, modern day Victorian state league system. In its eighty-year existence the club achieved three league premierships, and was nicknamed the 'Azzurri' after the Italy national football team. In its last season in 1973, the club relocated to the outer northern suburb of Fawkner, Victoria, Fawkner and was renamed as 'Fawkner Soccer Club' before dissolving at the season's conclusion, but had no connection to the present Fawkner SC, Fawkner Soccer Club. History Football Victoria began operation in 1884 under the name Anglo Australian Football Association of Victoria and is one of the oldest sporting associations in Victoria. It has had several name changes over the years, but has survived as the governing body of soccer in Victoria since this time. In 2009, player registrations for soccer in Victoria passed 50,000, the highest number in the federation's history.
