Football Victoria is the state governing body for soccer in Victoria, Australia. It is affiliated with Football Australia, the sport's national governing body. History Football Victoria began operation in 1884 under the name Anglo Australian Football Association of Victoria and is one of the oldest sporting associations in Victoria. It has had several name changes over the years, but has survived as the governing body of soccer in Victoria since this time. In 2009, player registrations for soccer in Victoria passed 50,000, the highest number in the federation's history. In 2018, the federation was renamed from "Football Federation Victoria" to "Football Victoria". Australian Rules Football
Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an Australian rules football playing field, oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the Football (ball)#Australian rules football, oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). During general play, players may position themselves anywhere on the field and use any part of their bodies to move the ball. The Victorian Premier League (VPL) is an Australian soccer league based in Victoria that was founded in 2023 and administered by Football Victoria. It consists of two divisions that were named after the VPL's breakaway of the National Premier Leagues Victoria (NPL Victoria) second and third divisions, which had run in the NPL Victoria system from 2014 until 2023. History In October 2023, Football Victoria renamed the NPL Victoria second and third divisions to form the Victorian Premier League (VPL) as a prominent name to the previously named Victorian Premier League; a former name of the NPL Victoria first division. The National Premier Leagues Victoria (NPL Victoria or NPL VIC) is a semi-professional soccer league in Victoria, Australia. The league is a part of the National Premier Leagues, and is the highest level within the Victorian soccer league system, serving jointly as the second tier within the overall Australian pyramid. Administered by Football Victoria, NPL Victoria is the latest iteration of first division competitions in the state. Historically known as the Victorian State League and later as the Victorian Premier League, the league was first founded in 1908 as the Victorian Amateur League and would soon become the Victorian First Division. North Eastern Soccer League
Goulburn North East Football Association was an association football (soccer) competition in Shepparton, Victoria. It was first known as the North Eastern Soccer League from the competition's inception in 1971 until February 2009. It was then renamed into the Goulburn North East Football Association. Between 2012 and 2014 the men's top division was known as the Regional Premier League. Ten clubs participated in the GNEFA across various divisions and age groups for men, women, boys and girls. In 2016 the league would close and 4 of the remaining clubs, Shepparton South, Shepparton United, Shepparton SC and Tatura SC all joined the Bendigo Amateur Soccer League.
