First Massimov Government
The First Massimov Government (; ) was the 9th government of Kazakhstan, led by Prime Minister Karim Massimov. The change in cabinet was a result of the 2007 Kazakh political shakeup where Massimov's predecessor Daniyal Akhmetov resigned unexpectedly from office on 8 January 2007. Observers believed that it was due to Akhmetov's exhaustion and increasing criticism from President Nursultan Nazarbayev over Akhmetov's oversight of the economy. Nazarbayev nominated Massimov to be the Prime Minister on 9 January who was then confirmed by the Parliament the next day on 10 January. The government lasted until 24 September 2012, when Massimov was appointed as the Head of the Presidential Administration, making him the longest person in Kazakhstan to hold office as the Prime Minister. Massimov was succeeded by his First Deputy Serik Akhmetov that day, after being approved by the Parliament to form a Serik Akhmetov Cabinet, new cabinet. The Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan (MD RK, , ҚР ҚМ; , МО РК) is a government agency of Kazakhstan which is the main executive body in implementing military policy. The Defense Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan is the head of the Ministry of Defense, whose duties are to exercise the administrative leadership of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Kanat Bekmyrzauly Saudabayev (, ''Qanat Bekmyrzaūly Saudabaev''; born 18 July 1946) is a Kazakh politician who served as the State Secretary of Kazakhstan from 2007 to 2012. Prior to that, he served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2009 to 2011 and in 1994, Ambassador of Kazakhstan to the United States from 2000 to 2007, Ambassador to the United Kingdom from 1996 to 1999 and Ambassador to Turkey from 1994 to 1996. Serik Ahmetov
Serik Nyghmetuly Akhmetov (; born 25 June 1958) was a Prime Minister of Kazakhstan from 2012 to 2014. He served as the Minister of Defense from April to October 2014. Akhmetov served for a time as first deputy akim of Astana before being appointed to government as Minister of Transport and Communications on 25 September 2006. He has also served as Chairman of the Board of the Atameken National Union of Entrepreneurs and Employers of Kazakhstan since 2005. From March 2009, Akhmetov served as Deputy Prime Minister before becoming the akim of Karaganda Region in November 2009. In January 2012, he was appointed as the First Deputy Prime Minister before becoming PM following the resignation of Karim Massimov on 24 September 2012. In November 2014, Akhmetov was arrested after being accused of committing a crime while serving as an äkim of Karaganda Region to which he was convicted in December 2015.
