Filippo Celli (golfer)
Filippo Celli (born 9 September 2000) is an Italian professional golfer who plays on the European Tour. In 2022, he won the European Amateur, the silver medal at the Open Championship, and the Eisenhower Trophy. Amateur career Celli was born in Rome in 2000 and only got started playing golf when he was 13 years old. He won the 2018 Castello di Marco Simone Trophy and the 2019 Italian Amateur Stroke Play Championship. He attended Texas Christian University on a scholarship and played with the TCU Horned Frogs men's golf team for two years, 2020–22. Celli won the 2022 European Amateur to earn a spot at the 2022 Open Championship at Old Course at St Andrews, where he shot a 5-under 283 to finish in a tie for 47th and win the silver medal as low amateur. A few weeks later, he finished in a tie for 7th at the ISPS Handa World Invitational. The 2022 European Amateur Team Championship took place 5–9 July at Royal St George's Golf Club in Sandwich, Kent, England. It was the 39th men's golf European Amateur Team Championship. The 2021 European Amateur Team Championship took place 6–10 July at PGA Catalunya in Spain. It was the 38th men's golf European Amateur Team Championship. The event was originally intended to be played at Vasatorp Golf Club in Sweden but was moved because of travel restriction concerns. Format Each team consisted of six players. On the first two days each player played 18 holes of stroke play each day. The lowest five scores from each team’s six players counted to the team total each day. The eight best teams formed flight A, in knock-out match-play over the following three days. The teams were seeded based on their positions after the stroke play. The first placed team was drawn to play the quarter final against the eight placed team, the second against the seventh, the third against the sixth and the fourth against the fifth. The 2020 European Amateur Team Championship took place 10–12 September at Hilversumsche Golf Club in the Netherlands. It was the 37th men's golf European Amateur Team Championship. Venue The club was founded in 1895, as the fourth golf club in the Netherlands. Its present course consists of nine holes opened in 1918, designed by Henry Burrows, and nine holes opened in 1928, designed by Harry Colt. The championship was played in odd-numbered years from 1959 to 2007 and has been played annually since 2008 (with the exception of 2012). The European Boys' Team Championship (Jean-Louis Dupont Trophy) is a European amateur team golf championship for men up to 18 organized by the European Golf Association. The inaugural event was held in 1980 and it has been played annually since. Since the European Youths' Team Championship, for men under 22, was discontinued in 2006, due to the trend of players reaching elite level at an earlier age, the European Boys' Team Championship has been regarded as the most important junior team event in Europe outside the British Isles. The Masters Tournament (usually referred to as simply The Masters, or the U.S. Masters outside North America) is one of the four major championships in professional golf. Bo Jesper Svensson (born 14 March 1996) is a Swedish professional golfer who plays on the European Tour. In 2023, he won the B-NL Challenge Trophy on the Challenge Tour and was runner-up at the Investec South African Open Championship. Early life and amateur career Svensson was born in Uppsala, Sweden.
