Fiji Open
The Fiji Open is a professional golf tournament played in Fiji. It was inaugurated in 1970 as a 54-hole stroke play tournament sponsored by Air New Zealand. During the first event there were 40 players. It has been a 72-hole tournament since the second edition in 1971. In 1973, a full-field of 162 players entered the tournament. As of 1976, it was the second of five events "South Pacific circuit." Since 2015, the winner and the leading Fijian have been rewarded with entry into the Fiji International. Fiji
Fiji ( , ,; fj, Viti, ; Fiji Hindi: फ़िजी, ''Fijī''), officially the Republic of Fiji, is an island country in Melanesia, part of Oceania in the South Pacific Ocean. Richard Coombes (golfer)
Richard Coombes (18 March 1858 – 15 April 1935) was a journalist and father of amateur athletics in Australia. Coombes was born at Hampton Court, Middlesex, England the son of Richard Coombes, hotelkeeper, and his wife Ellen, ''née'' Parsons. Coombes was educated at Hampton Grammar School, he was for some years in an insurance office, and became well known as an amateur runner and walker. He was captain of the Harefield Hare and Hounds Club, a champion walker of the London Athletic Club and captain of the Kingston upon Thames Bicycle Club. Coombes emigrated to Sydney in 1886 and took up journalism, becoming a contributor to the ''Referee''. In 1888 he founded the New South Wales Amateur Athletic Association, introduced cross country running, and formed the Amateur Walkers Club. Golf is a club-and-ball sport in which players use various clubs to hit balls into a series of holes on a course in as few strokes as possible. Golf, unlike most ball games, cannot and does not use a standardized playing area, and coping with the varied terrains encountered on different courses is a key part of the game. Gareth Paddison
Gareth Paddison (born 13 May 1980) is a New Zealand professional golfer who plays on the PGA Tour of Australasia. Amateur career Paddison won the New Zealand Amateur Stroke Play Championship and the Queensland Amateur Championship 1999 and the Canadian Amateur Championship in 2001. Ryan Fox (golfer)
Ryan Fox (born 22 January 1987) is a New Zealand professional golfer who plays on the European Tour and PGA Tour of Australasia. Professional career Fox turned professional in 2012 and played on the 2012 PGA Tour of Australasia. He had two 4th-place finishes, in the New Zealand PGA Pro-Am Championship and the New South Wales PGA Championship. He was runner-up in the 2014 Coca-Cola Queensland PGA Championship and later in the year won the Western Australian Open. Michael Hendry
Michael Hendry (born 15 October 1979) is a professional golfer from New Zealand. Since 2013 he has played primarily on the Japan Golf Tour where he won the 2015 Token Homemate Cup. He won the 2013 New Zealand PGA Championship and the 2017 New Zealand Open. Career Hendry was born in Auckland, New Zealand. He turned professional in 2005. Steven Craig Alker (born 28 July 1971) is a professional golfer from New Zealand who plays on the PGA Tour Champions, where he has won five events. He won the season-long 2022 Charles Schwab Cup on the PGA Tour Champions. Early life and professional career Alker was born in Hamilton, New Zealand. Jeff Woodland
Jeff Woodland (born 28 February 1957) is an Australian professional golfer who played on the PGA Tour and PGA Tour of Australasia. Professional career Woodland joined the Ben Hogan Tour in 1991 and had a very successful rookie year, winning the Ben Hogan Dakota Dunes Open while recording nine top-10 finishes. Ian Stanley (golfer)
Ian Stanley (14 November 1948 – 29 July 2018) was an Australian professional golfer. Stanley was born in Melbourne. He started playing at the age of 14 at the old Amstel Golf Club which backed onto his parents' home in Ian Grove, Mount Waverley. In 1966, he won both the Club Championship and Junior Championship and, later in the same year, won the Victorian School Boys at Huntingdale Golf Club. As Amstel was moving to a new site in Cranbourne, Stanley was asked to join Huntingdale, where he honed his game under the watchful eye of club professional Geoff Flanagan. In 1967, he won the Victorian Junior Championship at Huntingdale and in 1969, he went on to win both the Junior and Senior Club Championships (also played at Huntingdale).
