Fernando Chavez
Fernando Chaves Reyes (February 13, 1902 – 1999) was a novelist, essayist, and journalist. He was the first Ecuadorian writer to depict an indigenous theme in his writings. Chaves was Ecuador's ambassador to El Salvador, Ecuador and Nicaragua. Chaves' novel ''Plata y bronce'' (Silver and Bronze) (1927) was the first indigenist novel in Ecuador. Chaves was influenced by the Bolivian novelist Alcides Arguedas, who in 1919 wrote the indigenist novel ''Raza de bronze'' (Race of Bronze). Chávez' novel influenced other future Chaves was born in Otavalo. He was married to Magdalena Marie Ribreau, who died of a stroke in 1982. In 1991 he received the National Grand Cross of the Order of Merit. Indigenous People Of Ecuador
Indigenous peoples in Ecuador, or Native Ecuadorians, are the groups of people who were present in what became Ecuador before the Spanish colonization of the Americas. The term also includes their descendants from the time of the Spanish conquest to the present. Their history, which encompasses the last 11,000 years, reaches into the present; 25 percent of Ecuador's population is of indigenous heritage, while another 55-65 percent are Mestizos of mixed indigenous and European heritage. Genetic analysis indicates that Ecuadorian Mestizos are of predominantly indigenous ancestry. Alcides Arguedas
Alcides Arguedas Díaz (July 15, 1879 in La Paz – May 6, 1946 in Chulumani) was a Bolivian writer and historian. His literary work, which had a profound influence on the Bolivian social thought in the first half of the twentieth century, addresses issues related to national identity, miscegenation, and indigenous affairs. His most significant work, ''Raza de bronce'' ("Bronze Race") (1919), is considered one of the most influential Bolivian literary works and a precursor of indigenism. Rodolfo Pérez Pimentel (born November 2, 1939, in Guayaquil) is an Ecuadorian lawyer, historian, and biographer. He was declared the ''lifetime chronicler of the city of Guayaquil'', and is a member of the National Academy of Ecuadorian History. He was the 2005 recipient of the Premio Eugenio Espejo in Literature, awarded to him by President Alfredo Palacio.
