Fatima Lamarti
Fatima Lamarti (born 16 December 1966) is a Belgian politician and member of the Chamber of Representatives. A member of Vooruit, she has represented Flemish Brabant since June 2024. Lamarti was born on 16 December 1966 in Vilvoorde and is of Moroccan origin. Her mother is from Tangier and her father is from the Rif Mountains region. She was a school development worker for the municipal council in Vilvoorde for many years. She was later a manager at a transport company. She was also active in PROJO, a progressive youth organisation. Lamarti was elected to the municipal council in Vilvoorde at the 2000 local election. She was re-elected at the 2006, 2012 and 2018 local elections. She was Schepen (alderman) for education and social integration, Schepen for social affairs and equal opportunities, and a member of the board of directors of , the local municipal waste company in northern Halle-Vilvoorde. The Chamber of Representatives (; ; ) is one of the two chambers in the Bicameralism, bicameral Belgian Federal Parliament, Federal Parliament of Belgium, the other being the Senate (Belgium), Senate. A schepen (Dutch, ; . ') or échevin (French, , ) or Schöffe (German, ) is a municipal officer in Belgium and formerly the Netherlands, where it has been replaced by the (a municipal executive). In modern Belgium, the ''schepen'' or ''échevin'' is part of the municipal government. Depending on the context, it may be roughly translated as an alderman, councillor, or magistrate. Vooruit (, Dutch for Forward) is a Flemish social democratic political party in Belgium.
