Hatoon Ajwad al-Fassi () is a Saudi Arabian historian, author and women's rights activist. She is an associate professor of women's history at King Saud University in Saudi Arabia, where she has been employed since 1989 and at the International Affairs Department at Qatar University. At the university, al-Fassi carries out historical research. Al-Fassi claims from her research into the pre-Islamic Arabian kingdom of Nabataea that women in the kingdom had more independence than women in modern Saudi Arabia. Muhammad bin Muhammad al-Fassi (commonly known as ''Qutbul Ujud Imam Fassi'') (1760?–1863) was the originator of the Fassi family of Sheikhs who constitute the Fassiyatush Shadhiliyya Sufi order. Early life Fassi was born either in the year 1173 Hijri (ca 1760 CE) or 1218 Hijri in Fes in Morocco, from which the family name "al-Fassi" had earlier been derived. His mother died during his very childhood. He was a hafiz al-Quran during his childhood and travelled to various parts of the world and finally Makkah in search of wisdom. Carlo Fassi (20 December 1929 – 20 March 1997) was an Italian figure skater and international coach whose students included several World and Olympic champions. As a single skater, he was the 1953 World bronze medalist, a two-time European champion ( 1953, 1954), and a ten-time Italian national champion (1945–54). Malika al-Fassi (, b. 19 June 1919 – d. 12 May 2007) was a Moroccan writer and nationalist. She was the only woman to sign the Proclamation of Independence of Morocco in 1944. She was a student of Abdeslam Serghini. Mohammed al Fassi (1952 – Dec. 24, 2002), at times referred to as Prince al Fassi, was a Moroccan/ Saudi businessman related by marriage to the Saudi royal family. His sister was married to Prince Turki bin Abdul Aziz, one of the brothers of Saudi King Fahd al Saud. Al Fassi's notoriety stems largely from his 1978 purchase for $2.4 million of the 38-room white-stucco Whittier Mansion on Sunset Boulevard, Beverly Hills, which he had painted an unpopular shade of green. He also had painted the publicly visible statues around the house in flesh tones, with pubic hair painted black, raising the ire of many of his neighbors. In 1979 the mansion was used as a filming location for ''The Jerk'' starring Steve Martin. Muhammad Allal al-Fassi (ⵄⵍⵍⴰⵍ ⵍⴼⴰⵙⵉ) (January 10, 1910 – May 13, 1974), was a Moroccan politician, writer, poet and Islamic scholar. Politics He was born in Fes, Morocco. He studied at the University of Al-Qarawiyyin. For many years, his professor and mentor was Abdeslam Serghini. The Allal al Fassi Dam is an embankment dam located northeast of Sefrou on the Sebou River in the Fès-Meknès region of Morocco. Completed in 1991, it provides water for irrigation and hydroelectric power production. The dam was named after the famous Moroccan Allal al-Fassi.
