Farzana Rupa
Farzana Rupa is a Bangladeshi journalist and former principal correspondent of Ekattor TV. On August 21, 2024, she was detained at Dhaka Shahjalal International Airport in connection with a murder case filed at Uttara East Police Station. On March 5, 2025, during a court appearance, she stated, "I am a journalist. One murder case is enough to hang me," and expressed the desire to represent herself for bail, citing a lack of legal representation. Shakil Ahmed (journalist)
Shakil Ahmed is a Bangladeshi journalist and former head of news at Ekattor TV, a private television channel in Bangladesh. Ahmed is currently in jail on charges of abetting genocide, crimes against humanity, and murder during the student protests. Personal LIfe Shakil Ahmed is married to Farzana Rupa, who is also a journalist. The couple has worked together in the media industry and were both previously associated with Ekattor TV. Attacks by Islamist extremists in Bangladesh took place during a period of turbulence in Bangladesh between 2013 and 2016 when a number of secularist and atheist writers, bloggers, and publishers in Bangladesh; foreigners; homosexuals; and religious minorities such as Hindus, Buddhists, Christians and Ahmadis who were seen as having offended Islam and Muhammad were attacked in retaliation, with many killed by Muslim extremists.
