Fabrice André
Fabrice André is a French medical oncologist specializing in breast cancer. He is the Director of Research at Gustave Roussy in Villejuif, France, and a Professor of Medicine at the University of Paris-Saclay. André also serves as the President of the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) for the 2025-2026 term. Early life and education Fabrice André was born on May 10, 1972. He completed his secondary education in Villard-de-Lans before pursuing higher studies in Grenoble. He earned a medical degree in oncology from the University of Grenoble in 2002 and obtained a PhD in Biotechnology from the University of Paris in 2005, with a dissertation on cancer immunotherapy. Breast cancer is a cancer that develops from breast tissue. Villejuif () is a commune in the southern suburbs of Paris, France. It is located from the centre of Paris. Name The earliest reference to Villejuif appears in a bill signed by the Pope Callixtus II on 27 November 1119. It refers to Villa Judea, the Latinized version of the Old French expression meaning 'Jewish settlement'. During the following centuries, the toponym appears as Villejuifve, that is, following the archaic French spelling of the expression with the same meaning, cognate to modern French Villejuive. The French author from the 17th century Louis Moréri indicates that the settlement was founded by Jews expelled from Paris.
