F3 Derby
The F3 Derby is a soccer rivalry between Central Coast Mariners and Newcastle Jets. It is the longest standing derby in the A-League Men. The rivalry originated due to the team's relative geographical proximity, with the Mariners located on the Central Coast of New South Wales, the Jets in Newcastle, immediately to the north. The two clubs were also the only two clubs from outside capital cities in the inaugural A-League seasons, which contributed to the rivalry. The teams first met in the Australian qualifying tournament for the 2005 OFC Club Championship, in what was the Mariners' first ever competitive game (the Jets having formed five years prior). Both sides have played in every season of the A-League since its inception, and the teams also met in the now-defunct A-League Pre-Season Challenge Cup. John Aloisi
John Aloisi (; born 5 February 1976) is an Australian former soccer player and current head coach of A-League club Western United. Joel Griffiths
Joel Griffiths (born 21 August 1979) is an Australian professional football manager who currently serves as the manager of Newcastle Olympic FC for National Premier Leagues Northern NSW and retired professional football striker. He also had a brief stint with Leeds United where he made two appearances. Adam Griffiths (born 21 August 1979 in Sydney) is an Australian professional football manager who currently serves as the Assistant Coach of Wellington Phoenix FC. 2008 A-League Grand Final
The 2008 A-League Grand Final took place at Sydney Football Stadium in Sydney, Australia on 24 February 2008. It was the first A-League Grand Final played at a neutral home ground, due to Bluetongue Stadium being deemed by FFA to not have a sufficient capacity to hold the centrepiece of the A-League season. This move created a stir of controversy and was protested by the Central Coast Mariners, who won the right to host the match, but to no avail. Andrew Durante
Andrew James Durante (born 3 May 1982) is a retired New Zealand international footballer who played as a defender. He is currently the Western United 1st team Assistant & Development Coach. Durante is also the clubs Player Welfare and Development Manager. In 2023, Durante was appointed as Assistant Coach of the Philippines women's national football team. Born in Sydney, Australia, Durante played youth football with Sydney Olympic before making his senior debut at the club. In association football, a penalty shoot-out (previously known as kicks from the penalty mark) is a tie-breaking method to determine which team is awarded victory in a match that cannot end in a tie (draw), draw, when the score is tied after the normal time as well as Overtime (sports)#Association football, extra time (if used) has expired. National Soccer League
The National Soccer League (NSL) was the top-level soccer league in Australia, run by Soccer Australia and later the Australian Soccer Association. The NSL, the A-League's predecessor, spanned 28 seasons from its inception in 1977 until its demise in 2004, when it was succeeded by the A-League competition run by Football Federation Australia, the successor to the Australian Soccer Association.
