F. W. Thring
Francis William Thring III (2 December 1882 – 1 July 1936) was an Australian film director, producer, and exhibitor. He has been credited with the invention of the clapperboard. Early life Francis William Thring (or William Francis Thring) was born on 2 December 1882 in Wentworth, New South Wales, the son of a labourer, William Francis Thring, and Angelina, née McDonald. William Thring (c. 1812 – 17 November 1887) arrived in South Australia c. 1849 from England, son of W. Thring and brother of T. Thring, both at some time mayors of Salisbury, Wiltshire. but not in List of mayors of Salisbury. He lived Middleton 1856, Port Elliott 1863, Wentworth NSW in 1885, 1887. Wentworth, New South Wales
Wentworth is a small border town in the far south west of the state of New South Wales, Australia. It lies at the confluence of Australia's two most important rivers, the Darling and the Murray, the latter forming the border with the state of Victoria to the south. The Great Barrier Reef is the world's largest coral reef system, composed of over 2,900 individual reefs and 900 islands stretching for over over an area of approximately . Frank Harvey (Australian Screenwriter)
Frank Harvey (22 December 1885 – 10 October 1965) was a British-born actor, producer, and writer, best known for his work in Australia. Early life Frank Harvey was born Harvey Ainsworth Hilton on 22 December 1885 in Earls Court, London. He was the son of playwright John Ainsworth Hilton (1842–1903), who also wrote under the pen name Frank Harvey, and Elizabeth Hilton. He had three sisters, Maria, Cora, and Caroline. Career Harvey studied acting under Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree and performed Shakespearean roles in the Lyceum Theatre in London. In 1914, he was engaged by J. C. Williamson to play in Australia with Nancye Stewart, and did not return to Britain until 1926. George Wallace (Australian Comedian)
George Stephenson "Onkus" Wallace (4 June 1895 – 19 October 1960), was an Australian comedian, actor, vaudeville, vaudevillian and radio personality. During the early to mid-20th century, he was one of the most famous and successful Australian comedians on both stage and screen, with screen, song and revue sketch writing amongst his repertoire. Wallace was a small tubby man with goggle eyes, a mobile face and croaky voice who appeared in trademark baggy trousers, checkered shirt and felt hat. ''The Cedar Tree'' is an Australian musical play produced in the wake of the success of '' Collits' Inn''. The 1934 Melbourne production at the Princess Theatre was presented by F. W. Thring and starred Gladys Moncrieff. Background It was inspired by a visit Varney Monk made to the town of Windsor in New South Wales. Edmund Barclay had written a number of radio revues for the ABC and he was enlisted to write a musical. Collits' Inn
Collits' Inn is a heritage-listed former inn and now functions, accommodation and restaurant at Hartley Vale Road, Hartley Vale in the Central West region of New South Wales, Australia. It was designed by Pierce Collits and built in 1823. It is also known as Collitts Inn and Golden Fleece Inn. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999. Efftee Studios was an early Australian film and theatre production studio, established by F.W. Thring (the name 'Efftee' deriving from his initials, 'FT' for Francis Thring) in 1930. It existed until Thring's death in 1935. Initially Efftee Films was based in Melbourne and used optical sound equipment imported from the US.
