Evágrio Jorge
Evágrio Fransisco Jorge (6 March 1925 – 20 August 1978) was an Indian freedom fighter and journalist. Early life Evágrio Fransisco Jorge was born on 6 March 1925 in Carmona, Salcete, Portuguese Goa, to Tito Manuel Jorge and Moi Sinha Rodrigues. He completed his 7th year of Lyceum education. Goa liberation movement When Ram Manohar Lohia visited Goa in June 1946, Jorge visited Lohia at the home of Julião Menezes and published the news of Lohia's arrival on the ''O Heraldo'' newspaper on 12 June. This triggered the civil disobedience movement that is today known as Goa Revolution Day. Later, Jorge went to visit Lohia in Bombay, accompanied by Purushottam Kakodkar. While there, they got to know that the then Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru, was passing through the city. They thus met him and requested him for Goa's freedom. Peter Alvares
Peter Augustus Alvares (1908–1975) was an Indian politician. He was the first Member of Parliament from North Goa Lok Sabha constituency (then Panjim), after liberation of Goa from Portuguese rule in 1962. He served as president of All India Railwaymen's Federation from 1968 to 1973 and was its general secretary from 1957 to 1968. Rama Krishna Hegde (29 April 1912 - ?) was an Indian freedom fighter and physician from Goa, India. Life Early life Rama Krishna Hegde was born on 29 April 1912 in Madgaon to Krishna Rama Hegde. Pundalik Gaitonde
Pundalik Dattatreya Gaitonde (3 July 1913 – 13 November 1992) was a surgeon from Goa and an active participant in the Goa liberation movement. Along with Antonio Colaco, Gaitonde was nominated by the President of India to the 3rd Lok Sabha in 1962 following the incorporation of Goa, Daman and Diu into India on 19 December 1961. Early life Pundalik Gaitonde was born on 3 July 1913 to Dattatreya alias Mangesh Gaitonde and Anandibai at Borim, Goa in Portuguese India. Vishwanath Lawande
Vishwanath Lawande (20 April 1923 – 15 September 1998) was an Indian freedom fighter and lawyer. He was a founder member of the Azad Gomantak Dal and played an important role in the Liberation of Dadra and Nagar Haveli. He was fondly referred to as Kaka. Early life Vishwanath Narayan Lawande was born on 20 April 1923 at Goa Velha, Tiswadi taluka, to Narayan Pandurang Lawande. He had completed his BSc and LLB degrees. He pursued his BSc in Kolhapur. Gerald Pereira
Gerald Pereira (20 September 1929 – 4 March 1976) was an Indian freedom fighter, author, lawyer and trade unionist from Goa. Active in the Goa liberation movement, he founded the first trade union in Goa. He is the author of the book, ''An Outline of Pre-Portuguese History of Goa''. Early life Gerald Antonio Eustaqio de Monte Pereira was born on 20 September 1929 in Vasco da Gama, Goa to the Catholic family of Xavier Pereira, who worked for a technical firm in Bombay. Nicolau Menezes
Nicolau Menezes was an Indian independence activist and teacher from Goa. Along with Vaman Sardesai and Libia Lobo, he ran an underground radio station, Voice of Freedom, that transmitted across Portuguese Goa from 1955 to 1961, advocating the cause of the Goan independence movement.
