Evelyn Pinching
Evelyn Amie "Evie" Pinching (18 March 1915 – 24 December 1988) was a British alpine skier who won the 1936 women's downhill and combined events in the world championship in Innsbruck, and competed in the 1936 Winter Olympics, where she finished ninth in the alpine skiing combined. In 1937 Pinching won the Hahnenkamm downhill in Kitzbühel. She was born in Norwich. Evie Pinching Award The Evie Pinching Award is an annual prize organised by the Ski Club of Great Britain given to an athlete aged 24 or under considered 'one to watch' in their snowsports discipline. The athletes are nominated by the sport’s UK national governing bodies, Snowsport England, Snowsport Scotland, Snowsport Wales, Disability Snowsport UK and British Ski and Snowboard - with a shortlist of then chosen by the Ski Club. Alpine Skiing
Alpine skiing, or downhill skiing, is the pastime of sliding down snow-covered slopes on skis with fixed-heel bindings, unlike other types of skiing ( cross-country, Telemark, or ski jumping), which use skis with free-heel bindings. Whether for recreation or for sport, it is typically practiced at ski resorts, which provide such services as ski lifts, artificial snow making, snow grooming, restaurants, and ski patrol. Menna Fitzpatrick
Menna Fitzpatrick MBE (born 5 May 1998) is a British alpine skier. She is visually impaired having only 5% vision and formerly skied with guide Jennifer Kehoe until 2021. They competed at the 2018 Winter Paralympics in Pyeongchang in March 2018 where they took four medals, including a gold in the slalom, making Fitzpatrick Team GB's most decorated Winter Paralympian. Early life and training She was born in Macclesfield, Cheshire, and studied Media Production at the Macclesfield College. Fitzpatrick has congenital retinal folds, meaning that she has had no vision in her left eye and limited sight in her right eye since birth. Despite this, she learned to ski whilst on family holidays from the age of five with her father acting as her guide. She was discovered by a coach whilst skiing at the Chill Factore indoor slope in Manchester in 2010, and subsequently started training with the British Para Snowsport team. Katie Ormerod (born 25 August 1997) is a British snowboarder who was selected to participate in the 2018 Winter Olympics and 2022 Winter Olympics. She is from Brighouse, West Yorkshire. Career Ormerod narrowly missed qualifying for the 2014 Winter Olympics when she was 16. In November 2016, she was placed third at the Big Air World Cup in Pyeongchang, a test event for the venue of the 2018 Winter Olympics. In January 2017, she won the Big Air World Cup event in Moscow and a bronze medal in the Women's Slopestyle at the Winter X Games XXI in Aspen. In May 2014, then aged 16, Ormerod became the first female snowboarder to land a ''double cork 1080'', one of the most complex manoeuvres in snowboarding, which involves three rotations and two inverted flips. FIS Alpine World Ski Championships
The FIS Alpine World Ski Championships is an alpine skiing competition organized by the International Ski Federation (FIS). History The inaugural world championships in alpine skiing were held in 1931. During the 1930s, the event was held annually in Europe, until interrupted by the outbreak of World War II, preventing a 1940 event. An event was held in 1941, but included competitors only from nations from the Axis powers or nations not at war with them. The results were later cancelled by the FIS in 1946 because of the limited number of participants, so they are not considered official.
