Eurovision Song Contest 1987
The Eurovision Song Contest 1987 was the 32nd edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in Brussels, Belgium, following the country's victory at the with the song " J'aime la vie" by Sandra Kim. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster (RTBF), the contest was held at the Centenary Palace on 9 May 1987 (also Europe Day) and hosted by French-Belgian singer Viktor Lazlo. Twenty-two countries took part in the contest with and returning to the competition after their absences the previous year. This set the record for the highest number of competing countries up until that point. The winner was with the song " Hold Me Now" by Johnny Logan, who had also won the contest. Viktor Lazlo
Sonia Dronnier (born 7 October 1960), known by her stage name Viktor Lazlo, is a French writer, singer, and comedian. Born in France, she studied in Belgium, where she is primarily known. Her biggest hit was "Breathless" in 1987. That year she also hosted the Eurovision Song Contest 1987 held in Brussels as well as several TV shows and literary events. She has published six novels between 2010 and 2024, and has also written short stories. Dronnier took her stage name from Paul Henreid's character Victor Laszlo in the 1942 film ''Casablanca (film), Casablanca''. She sings and acts in French, English, Spanish and German. Cyprus was represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 1981 with the song "Monika", composed by Doros Georgiades, with lyrics by Stavros Sideras, and performed by the group Island. Alexia Vassiliou
Alexia Vassiliou (; born 5 February 1964) is a Cypriot singer-songwriter. She has represented her country in the Eurovision contest in 1981 and 1987. She became a refugee at age ten and still gives concerts for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. Life Vassiliou was born in Famagusta in north east Cyprus in 1964. On 14 August 1974 the town was invaded by Turkish forces and she and her family fled the town as refugees. A resolution of the situation of a divided island was abandoned by the United Nations in 2017. She trained in music in Boston at the Berklee College of music.
