European Patrol Corvette
European Patrol Corvette (EPC or PPX) is a Permanent Structured Cooperation (PESCO) project that was adopted by the European Council on 12 November 2019. The objective is to design and develop a new class of warship. The project is coordinated by Italy, with France, Spain and Greece participating and Portugal as an observer. In December 2021, it was reported that Norway and Denmark had also joined the project. The ships will have a conventional hull of different dimensions, armament and propulsion systems. A corvette is a small warship. It is traditionally the smallest class of vessel considered to be a proper (or " rated") warship. The warship class above the corvette is that of the frigate, while the class below was historically that of the sloop-of-war. The modern roles that a corvette fulfills include coastal patrol craft, missile boat and fast attack craft.
