Arjun Kumar Erigaisi (born 3 September 2003) is an Indian chess grandmaster. A chess prodigy, he earned the title of grandmaster at the age of 14 years, 11 months, 13 days. In September 2024 he became India's top rated player, and in December 2024 he achieved his peak rating of 2801 which makes him the fifteenth-highest rated player in history and second Indian ever to cross the 2800 threshold after Viswanathan Anand. He has sometimes been described as a 'madman' over the board for his bold and unpredictable style. Early life and background He was born into a Telugu family in Warangal, Telangana. 45th Chess Olympiad
The 45th Chess Olympiad was an international team chess event organised by the International Chess Federation (FIDE) in Budapest, Hungary, from 10 to 23 September 2024. It consisted of two main tournaments—an Open event, enabling participation of players from all genders, and a Women's event, enabling participation of female players only—as well as several events to promote chess. The total number of participants was 1,884: 975 in the Open and 909 in the Women's event. The number of registered teams was 197 from 195 nations in the Open section and 183 from 181 nations in the Women's section. Both sections set team participation records despite the absence of Russia and Belarus due to their involvement in the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Gukesh Dommaraju (born 29 May 2006) is an Indian chess grandmaster and the reigning World Chess Champion. A chess prodigy, Gukesh is the youngest undisputed world champion, the youngest player to have surpassed a FIDE rating of 2750, doing so at the age of 17, and the third-youngest to have surpassed 2700 Elo at the age of 16. He earned the title of grandmaster at the age of 12 and is the third-youngest grandmaster in chess history. Gukesh started playing chess at the age of 7. Performance Rating (chess)
Performance rating (abbreviated as Rp) in chess is the level a player performed at in a tournament or match based on the number of games played, their total score in those games, and the Elo ratings of their opponents. It is the Elo rating a player would have if their performance resulted in no net rating change. Due to the difficulty of computing performance rating in this manner, however, the linear method and FIDE method for calculating performance rating are in much more widespread use. With these simpler methods, only the average rating (abbreviated as Ra) factors into the calculation instead of the rating of each individual opponent. Regardless of the method, only the total score is used to determine performance rating instead of individual game results. Lê Quang Liêm (born 13 March 1991) is a Vietnamese chess grandmaster, the top-ranked of his country. He was awarded the title of Grandmaster by FIDE in 2006. Liêm won the Asian Chess Championship in 2019 and was the World Blitz Chess Champion in 2013. He has competed for the Vietnamese team at the Chess Olympiad since 2006. The best result occurred in 2012, when he scored 8/10 points on board 1 and his team finished in 7th place, the highest ever for Vietnam.
