''Employment'' is the debut studio album by English indie rock band Kaiser Chiefs, released in March 2005 on B-Unique Records. ''Employment'' takes its inspirations from the Britpop and New wave music, new wave movements, 1970s-era punk rock and Beach Boys-esque West Coast music. The album originally charted at number three in the UK Albums Chart on 13 March 2005, but charted at number two almost a year after its release, due to the band's success at the Brit Awards. ''Employment'' went on to become the fourth best-selling album in the United Kingdom that year. Background It was Kaiser Chiefs themselves that chose to work with producer Stephen Street. According to Street he had been introduced to Nick Hodgson after an The Ordinary Boys, Ordinary Boys gig in which Kaiser Chiefs were the support act. Kaiser Chiefs
Kaiser Chiefs are an English indie rock band from Leeds who originally formed in 1996 as Runston Parva, before reforming as Parva in 2000, and releasing one studio album, ''22'', in 2003, before renaming and establishing themselves in their current name that same year. Since their formation, the band has consisted of lead vocalist Ricky Wilson (singer), Ricky Wilson, guitarist Andrew White (musician), Andrew "Whitey" White, bassist Simon Rix, keyboardist Nick "Peanut" Baines and since 2013 drummer Vijay Mistry, who replaced founding drummer Nick Hodgson following his departure from the band in late 2012. New Wave Music
New wave is a music genre that encompasses pop music, pop-oriented styles from the 1970s through the 1980s. It is considered a lighter and more melodic "broadening of Punk subculture, punk culture". It was originally used as a catch-all for the various styles of music that emerged after punk rock. Later, critical consensus favored "new wave" as an umbrella term involving many contemporary popular music styles, including synth-pop, alternative dance and post-punk. The main new wave movement coincided with late 1970s punk and continued into the early 1980s. Enjoyment (DVD)
''Enjoyment'' is the follow-up DVD release to indie band Kaiser Chiefs' highly successful debut album ''Employment'', released on November 28, 2005. The main focus of the DVD is an approximately 90 minute documentary directed by Walpole-based artist Cally Callomon (who is responsible for much of the band's artwork), with an unusual narration by Bill Nighy and over an hour of live footage shot from various points in the band's career, ranging from their time as indie band Parva to the 2005 tour of ''Employment''. Fitting with the documentary theme of the DVD, there are segments between the footage featuring interviews with the supposedly younger and older selves of the band members. Caroline, No
"Caroline, No" is a song by the American musician Brian Wilson that was released as his first solo record on March 7, 1966 and, two months later, reissued as the closing track on the Beach Boys' album ''Pet Sounds''. Written with Tony Asher, the lyrics describe a disillusioned man who reflects on his former love interest and the pain of someone changing. Musically, it is distinguished for its jazz chords and unusual combination of instruments, including bass flutes, 12-string electric guitar, and muted harpsichord. The words were inspired by a past girlfriend of Asher's named Carol Amen. He initially conceived the title phrase as "Carol, I Know", misheard by Wilson as "Caroline, No". Other reports, which Wilson disputed, variously suggest that the song was written about himself, his former schoolmate Carol Mountain, or his then-wife Marilyn. The Beach Boys
The Beach Boys are an American Rock music, rock band formed in Hawthorne, California, in 1961. The group's original lineup consisted of brothers Brian Wilson, Brian, Dennis Wilson, Dennis, and Carl Wilson, their cousin Mike Love, and their friend Al Jardine. Transcopic Records
Transcopic was a British record label created in 1998 by Blur guitarist Graham Coxon for his solo releases, as well as those of other left field artists. Along with Coxon's music, the label issued records by acts such as Ooberman, The Buff Medways, You Am I, and Billy Childish. It was co-owned by Jamie Davis, who subsequently co-founded Ark Recordings and founded The Jaded Hearts Club . Coxon issued his first five solo albums and their associated singles on the label between 1998 and 2005. Graham Coxon
Graham Leslie Coxon (born 12 March 1969) is an English guitarist, singer and songwriter who came to prominence as a founding member of the rock band Blur. As the group's lead guitarist and secondary vocalist, Coxon is featured on all of Blur's studio discography (although 2003's ''Think Tank'' only features his playing on one album track, plus two B-side tracks, due to his temporary departure from the band during recording sessions for the album). He has also led a solo career since 1998, producing and playing all instrumentation on his solo albums. Vincenzo "Cenzo" Capellini Townshend (born 25 March 1963) is an English record producer, mixer, and audio engineer, and has worked with artists and bands including the Rolling Stones, a-ha, Kaiser Chiefs, U2, Snow Patrol, Florence + the Machine, Jamie T, Friendly Fires, Bloc Party, Franz Ferdinand, the Maccabees, Jamie Cullum, Mystery Jets, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, and Thirty Seconds to Mars. The Ordinary Boys
The Ordinary Boys are an English pop band from Worthing, West Sussex. Originally named Next in Line, they are influenced by punk rock and Britpop music. Their name derives from a Morrissey song, "The Ordinary Boys". The membership of the band that originally split up in 2008 consisted of founding members Preston (singer), Preston (vocals, rhythm guitar), William Brown (lead guitar), James Gregory (bass), and Simon Goldring (drums). In October 2015, they returned with a new The Ordinary Boys (album), self-titled album on their own imprint label Treat Yourself.
