General Hospital
''General Hospital'' (often abbreviated as ''GH'') is an American daytime television soap opera created by Frank and Doris Hursley which has been broadcast on American Broadcasting Company, ABC since April 1, 1963. Originally a half-hour serial, its running time was expanded from 30 minutes to 45 minutes on July 26, 1976, and again to a full hour on January 16, 1978. Set in a hospital in the city of Port Charles, New York, ''General Hospital'' originally starred John Beradino and Emily McLaughlin; both actors stayed with the show until their deaths in 1996 and 1991, respectively. Kay Alden
Priscilla Kay Alden (born October 24, 1946) is an American television writer and the former head writer for the soap opera, ''The Young and the Restless''. Career Alden began writing for ''The Young and the Restless'' as a script writer in 1974 while researching her dissertation at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She was promoted to associate head writer in 1987, then to co-head writer in 1997. She took over as head writer the following year when series co-creator William J. Bell stepped down from the position. With Alden as head writer, the show lost about two million viewers (most of the loss occurred in 2004 when Alden co-wrote the show with longtime ''Y&R'' scribe and producer John F. Smith), but all soap operas during that period experienced a similar scale of massive audience erosion. The Daytime Emmy Awards, or Daytime Emmys, are part of the extensive range of Emmy Awards for artistic and technical merit for the American television industry. Joe Shelby "Josh" Griffith (born August 15, 19??) is an American soap opera writer and producer. Personal life Born on August 15, in New York, Josh is the son of Joe (Rip) Griffith and Sue Estes Griffith, both teachers and artists. Career Griffith began his writing career on '' Santa Barbara'' in 1988 and continued writing for the show until 1991 when he moved over to ''One Life to Live'', where he began as an associate head writer under Michael Malone before being promoted to co-head writer in early 1992. NBC Daytime was the daytime programming block of NBC. It historically featured many soap operas, game shows, and talk shows. Its main competitors were CBS Daytime (Paramount) and ABC Daytime (Disney). Game shows were removed from NBC Daytime's lineup in 1994 and soap operas were largely dropped between the 1980s and the 1990s. By the 2000s, NBC Daytime had been reduced to only two shows: ''Days of Our Lives'' and '' Passions''. ''Passions'' was moved to DirecTV's now-defunct 101 Network in 2007. Paul Rauch
Paul Rauch (December 23, 1933 – December 10, 2012) was an American television and film producer. Rauch's work was primarily in American soap operas. Career Rauch's earlier jobs included Vice President, Programs-East Coast for CBS, Supervising Producer for Procter & Gamble, and Music Critic for an English-language edition of the Japanese ''Yomiuri Shimbun'', a job he held in his mid-twenties. Daytime drama ''Another World'' Rauch is best known for his work on '' Another World'', which he produced from 1972 to 1982. For much of that time, he worked in conjunction with head writer Harding Lemay, and the team garnered the show critical acclaim and strong ratings.
