Eliahu Eilat
Eliahu Elath (Hebrew: אליהו אילת, born ''Ilya Menakhemovich Epstein''; 16 July 1903 – 21 June 1990) was an Israeli diplomat and Orientalist. In 1948 he became the first Israeli ambassador to the United States, and between 1950 and 1959, he was Israel's ambassador to the United Kingdom. He was the President of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem from 1962 to 1968. Biography Eliahu Eilat immigrated from Russia to Palestine in 1924, and spent a decade in Beirut as a student and journalist. Eliahu Inbal
Eliahu Inbal (born 16 February 1936, Jerusalem) is an Israeli conductor. Inbal studied violin at the Israeli Academy of Music and took composition lessons with Paul Ben-Haim. Upon hearing him there, Leonard Bernstein endorsed a scholarship for Inbal to study conducting at the Conservatoire de Paris, and he also took courses with Sergiu Celibidache and Franco Ferrara in Hilversum, Netherlands. At Novara, he won first prize at the 1963 Guido Cantelli conducting competition at the age of 26. Since after that, Eliahu Inbal has enjoyed a career of international renown, conducting leading orchestras around the world Inbal made most of his early appearances in Italy, but a successful British debut in 1965 with the London Philharmonic led to a number of other engagements with British orchestras. Shlomo Eliahu ( he, שלמה אליהו, born 18 January 1936) is an Israeli businessman, billionaire, and former politician who served as a member of the Knesset between 1978 and 1981. Biography Born in Baghdad in 1936, Eliahu made aliyah to Israel in 1950 with his parents and eight siblings. After initially being based in a ma'abara at Beit Lid, his family moved to Kiryat Shalom. Shortly after immigrating he started working for Migdal. After being sacked in 1953, he began working for Binyan as an insurance agent. Eliahu Gat ( he, אליהו גת; 1919–1987) was an Israeli landscape painter. Biography Eliahu Gulkowitz (later Gat) at was born in 1919 in the small town of Dokshitz in what is now Belarus, to a Lithuanian Jewish Zionist family. In 1926, the family resettled in Poland, where Gat attended a Polish gymnasium. In 1937, he immigrated to Mandate Palestine and studied architecture at the Technion in Haifa. From 1939 to 1942, he joined Kibbutz Nir Haim and Maoz Haim. During this period, he also worked as a dockhand and seaman in Haifa port. In 1942, he joined the British Army, serving in Palestine and North Africa until 1946. In 1945, while still a soldier, he studied for a year at Aharon Avni’s painting studio. Eliahu Nissim (אליהו נסים; born 1933) is an Israeli former Sidney Goldstein Professor in Aeronautical Engineering at Technion – Israel Institute of Technology, and a former President of the Open University of Israel. Biography Nissim was born in Israel in 1933. In 1957, he graduated with a B.Sc. from the University of Bristol, in 1961 with an M.Sc. from Technion – Israel Institute of Technology, and in 1963 with a Ph.D. from the University of Bristol. He won the Sir George Taylor Prize in England in 1966. He worked at the NASA Langley Research Center in Virginia from 1969 to 1970, and again from 1975 to 1976.
