The Kingdom of Kartli ( ka, ქართლის სამეფო, tr) was a late medieval and early modern monarchy in eastern Georgia, centred on the province of Kartli, with its capital at Tbilisi. Elene Virsaladze, also known as E. B. Virsaladze ( ka, ელენე ვირსალაძე; January 3, 1911 – 1977) was a prominent Georgian folklorist known for her extensive writing and fieldwork. Her work has been translated into Russian, French, German, and English. Biography Virsaladze was born to economist Bagrat Virsaladze and botanist Elene Muskhelishvili on January 3, 1911. She was the youngest of three children. When Virsaladze was ten years old, the Red Army invaded Georgia. Her father wanted to flee to Europe to escape the occupation, where both he and his wife had been educated, but his wife refused to leave Georgia. Virsaladze graduated high school in Georgia and moved on to Tbilisi State University (TSU), where she was tutored by folklorist Vakhtang Kotetishvili. It is the last of six poems appearing in the Vercelli manuscript, which also contains ''The Fates of the Apostles'', ''Andreas'', '' Soul and Body I'', the ''Homiletic Fragment I'' and ''Dream of the Rood''. The poem is the first English account of the finding of the Holy Cross by Saint Helena, the mother of Emperor Constantine. The poem was written by Cynewulf some time between 750 and the tenth century. It is written in a West Saxon dialect, but certain Anglianisms and metrical evidence concerning false rhymes suggest it was composed in an Anglian rather than Saxon dialect. It is 1,321 lines long. Elene Tevdoradze ( ka, ელენე თევდორაძე; born 5 September 1938), is a Georgian politician, teacher, and former member of the Parliament of Georgia. Biography Tevdoradze was born in Tbilisi on 5 September 1938. She graduated from the Faculty of German Language and Literature at the Institute of Foreign Languages of Tbilisi in 1960. From 1962 to 1963, she was a secondary school teacher in the city of Rustavi, and became the local leader of Komsomol from 1963 to 1965. In 1972, Tevdoradze was named deputy principal of Tbilisi School No. 3 and became the principal of 90th School of Tbilisi in 1975.
