El Shaddai DWXI Prayer Partners Fellowship International, popularly known as El Shaddai ( he, אֵל שַׁדַּי, , , which is one of the names of God in Jewish faith) is the biggest Catholic charismatic movement in the Philippines. The movement is led by Mike Velarde, a real estate developer and preacher. Novaliches bishop emeritus Teodoro C. Bacani, Jr. serves as its spiritual adviser. History Inspired by his recovery from a heart ailment in 1978, Mike Velarde started a weekly Bible-quoting radio show on DWXI, a station he acquired in 1982 as part of a real estate deal. Catholic Charismatic Renewal
The Catholic Charismatic Renewal is a movement within the Catholic Church that is part of the wider charismatic movement across historic Christian churches. The Renewal has been described as a "current of grace". It began in 1967 when Catholics from Duquesne University attended a Protestant worship service and claimed to have been "baptized in the Holy Spirit". It is heavily influenced by American Protestantism, especially Pentecostalism, with an emphasis on having a "personal relationship with Jesus", deep emotional experiences, and expressing the "gifts of the Holy Spirit". Delta Broadcasting System, Inc. (DBS) is a media company owned by El Shaddai leader Bro. Mike Velarde. Its studios and offices at the Queensway Commercial Center Building, 118 Amorsolo Street, Legaspi Village, Makati. It registered at the Securities and Exchange Commission on March 2, 1992. It operates DWXI 1314 kHz AM, an AM radio station which is started in 1981, and DBS TV Channel 35, a UHF television station. History In 1981, at the height of his real estate business expansion around what is now Ninoy Aquino International Airport, Bro. Mike bought the DWXI 1314 an AM Radio Station from its owner-operators for ₱ 2 million, because he needed the parcel of land on which it stood.
