Edwin Werner
Edwin Werner (born 1940) is a German musicologist and Handel scholar. Life Born in Wrocław, Werner comes from Silesia. After he passed his Abitur in Ballenstedt in the , he studied musicology and Germanistik at the Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg from 1959 until his diploma in 1964. His academic teachers included et al. Max Schneider and Walther Siegmund-Schultze. From 1964 to 1967 he worked as music dramaturg at the . Afterwards (1967) he became deputy director of the Handel House in Halle (Saale) under Konrad Sasse. In 1981, Bernd Baselt awarded him a doctorate A as Dr. phil. with the work ''Georg Friedrich Händel's Trauer-Anthem" HWV 264. A study with a critical edition of the score in the context of the Hallische Händel-Ausgabe''. From 1982 to 2005, he succeeded Sasse as director of the Music Museum, which he established as an internationally important institution. Musicology is the academic, research-based study of music, as opposed to musical composition or performance. Organology (; ) is the science of musical instruments and their classifications. It embraces study of instruments' history, instruments used in different cultures, technical aspects of how instruments produce sound, and musical instrument classification. There is a degree of overlap between organology, ethnomusicology (being subsets of musicology) and the branch of the science of acoustics devoted to musical instruments. The Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany (, or , BVO) is the highest federal decoration of the Federal Republic of Germany. It may be awarded for any field of endeavor. It was created by the first President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Theodor Heuss, on 7 September 1951. Colloquially, the decorations of the different classes of the Order are also known as the Federal Cross of Merit (). The Bezirk Halle was a district (''Bezirk'') of East Germany. The administrative seat and the main town was Halle. ARD is a joint organisation of Germany's regional Public broadcasting, public-service broadcasters. It was founded in 1950 in West Germany to represent the common interests of the new, decentralised, post-war broadcasting services—in particular the introduction of a joint television network. ARD has a budget of €6.9 billion, 22,612 employees and is the largest public broadcaster network in the world. The budget comes primarily from a mandatory licence fee which every household, company and public institution, regardless of television ownership, is required by law to pay. For an ordinary household the fee is €18.36 per month, as of 2023. Households living on Welfare in Germany, welfare are exempt from the fee.
