Edwin Thompson
Edwin Thompson is an American baseball coach and former outfielder, who is the current head baseball coach of the Georgetown Hoyas. He played college baseball at Howard, Maryland and Webber International. He then served as the head coach of the Bates Bobcats (2009–2010) and Eastern Kentucky Colonels (2016–2020). Playing career Thompson attended Jay High School in Jay, Maine. Thompson then committed to Howard University, where he was a member of the Howard Bison baseball team. After two seasons at Howard, he transferred to Maryland where he played baseball for a season, before transferring again to play at Webber International University. Coaching career On July 23, 2008, Thompson was named the head coach of the Bates Bobcats baseball team. Georgetown Hoyas Baseball
The Georgetown Hoyas baseball team represents Georgetown University in the Big East Conference, part of the National Collegiate Athletic Association, NCAA's Division I (NCAA), Division I level of college baseball. Baseball is Georgetown's second oldest sport after cricket, with the first recorded game taking place in 1866, and the team formally organized and sanctioned in 1870. The team was once known as the Stonewalls, and is one possible source of the Hoya Saxa cheer famous among all Georgetown sports teams. Georgetown has yet to make an appearance in the NCAA Division I Baseball Championship, NCAA Division I baseball tournament. College baseball is baseball that is played on the intercollegiate level at institutions of higher education. In comparison to football and basketball, college competition in the United States plays a smaller role in developing professional players, as baseball's professional minor leagues are more extensive, with a greater history of supplying players to MLB. Moving directly from high school to the professional level is more common in baseball than in football or basketball. However, if players do opt to enroll at a four-year college to play baseball, they must complete three years to regain professional eligibility, unless they reach age 21 before starting their third year of college. Players who enroll at junior colleges (i.e., two-year institutions) regain eligibility after one year at that level. The 2021 NCAA Division I baseball season play of college baseball in the United States organized by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) at the Division I level, began on February 19, 2021. The season progressed through the regular season, many conference tournaments and championship series, and concluded with the 2021 NCAA Division I baseball tournament and 2021 College World Series. The Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) is a collegiate athletic conference which operates in the Midwestern and Southeastern United States.
