Ed Motta
Eduardo "Ed" Motta (; born August 17, 1971) is a Brazilian MPB, rock, soul, funk and jazz musician. He is the nephew of late singer-songwriter Tim Maia. Career Son of Luzia Motta (sister of Tim Maia) and Antonio Motta, Ed Motta listened to disco, soul and funk from an early age. He became a fan of rock music as a teenager. His musical career started as vocalist of the hard rock band Kabbalah. After hearing Jeff Beck's album "Blow by Blow", he realized that the British guitarist had soul and funk influences. While still in his teens, he abandoned his studies to dedicate himself to music, and explored a fascination with soul music. He worked as a DJ and produced the fanzine "Curto Circuito", eventually meeting guitarist Luiz Fernando Comprido, with whom he formed the "Expresso Realengo", later renamed "Conexão Japeri" which recorded their first album in 1988. Marcos Valle
Marcos Kostenbader Valle (born 14 September 1943) is a Brazilian singer, musician, and songwriter. He has produced works in many musical styles, including bossa nova, samba, and fusions of rock, soul, jazz, and dance music with Brazilian styles. Valle is credited for popularizing bossa nova in the 1960s. Personal life Valle was born as Marcos Kostenbader Valle on 14 September 1943. He and his family lived in an apartment near Copacabana beach. Valle began playing piano at the age of five, studying the instrument and classical music for thirteen years. His parents purchased him a Petrof piano when he was ten years old. Growing up, he became influenced by Marvin Gaye. Eliane Elias (born 19 March 1960) is a Brazilian jazz pianist, singer, composer and arranger. Biography Elias was born in São Paulo, Brazil, on 19 March 1960. She started studying piano when she was seven, and at age twelve she was transcribing solos from jazz musicians. She began teaching piano when she was fifteen, and began performing at seventeen with Brazilian singer-songwriter Toquinho and touring with the poet Vinicius de Moraes. At that age she was also invited to tour with Antônio Carlos Jobim, considered the pioneer of Bossa Nova music. In 1981 she moved to New York City, where she attended The Juilliard School of Music. Jorge Mário da Silva, more commonly known by his stage name Seu Jorge (Seu, Portuguese for "Your"; born June 8, 1970; ), is a Brazilian musical artist, songwriter, and actor. Roy Edward Ayers Jr. (September 10, 1940 – March 4, 2025) was an American vibraphonist, record producer, and composer. Ayers began his career as a post-bop jazz artist, releasing several studio albums with Atlantic Records, before his tenure at Polydor Records beginning in the 1970s, during which he helped to pioneer jazz-funk. He was a key figure in the acid jazz movement, and has been described as "The Godfather of Neo Soul". Genival Cassiano dos Santos (September 16, 1943 – May 7, 2021), best known only as Cassiano, was a Brazilian singer, songwriter and guitarist. He is recognized, along with Tim Maia and Hyldon, as one of the three great precursors of the establishment of an American funk and soul music influence in Brazilian popular music. His career, however, was compromised by a serious respiratory problem in the late 1970s, in which he lost part of his lungs.
