The Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA; ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael ; CLG) is an Irish international amateur sporting and cultural organisation, focused primarily on promoting indigenous Gaelic games and pastimes, which include the traditional Irish sports of hurling, camogie, Gaelic football, Gaelic handball and rounders. County Sligo
County Sligo ( , gle, Contae Shligigh) is a county in Ireland. It is located in the Border Region and is part of the province of Connacht. Sligo is the administrative capital and largest town in the county. Sligo County Council is the local authority for the county. The population of the county was 65,535 at the 2016 census. Gurteen or Gorteen () is a village in County Sligo, Ireland. It is in the civil parish of Kilfree in the baronry of Coolavin. Gurteen's population increased from 269 people, at the 2006 census, to 393 at the 2016 census. Monasteraden
Monasteraden () is a village in County Sligo, Ireland. The village is located on the shores of Lough Gara. St Aiden's church is the village's church. Other sites include Lough Gara Lodge, Slí na Croí's Roundhouse Ecolodge, Drury's pub and the general store. Geography Monasteraden lies to the west of Lough Gara and with the Curlew Mountains inlier of sandstones and conglomerates to the North. To the west lies the townland of Clogher with Edmondstown and Ballaghaderreen in the neighbouring County Roscommon. Monasteraden is situated in the barony of Coolavin in the south of County Sligo. Ballinafad
Ballinafad () is a village in the south of County Sligo in the west of Ireland. The village overlooks Lough Arrow, and is itself overlooked by the ruins of Ballinafad Castle. The 1st Marquess of Osorno, who became governor of Chile and viceroy of Perú, was born in this area. Osorno was the father of Bernardo O'Higgins, leader of South American emancipation. The Most Rev. Dr John Healy, Lord Archbishop of Tuam from 1903 to 1918, was also born and raised in Ballinafad. Ballinafad is in the south of the Barony of Tirerrill. There is also a village called Ballinafad in County Galway, and a large house called Ballinafad House in County Mayo which featured on ''The Great House Revival'' on RTÉ in 2018. Paul Taylor (Gaelic Footballer)
Paul Taylor is a Gaelic football manager and former player. He played as a forward for the Sligo county team between 1993 and 2007. His point of origin is at Eastern Harps, with whom he won six Sligo Senior Football Championships. He was appointed manager of Sligo in 2018, having earlier worked as a selector under the management of Kevin Walsh. Taylor oversaw a winless 2019 season for Sligo, an early All-Ireland Senior Football Championship exit following swiftly on from an early Connacht Senior Football Championship exit. These in turn followed relegation from the National Football League, confirmed by a home defeat to Wstmeath in March with two rounds of the competition still to play. A few weeks later, Taylor ran for Fianna Fáil in the 2019 local elections in Sligo and was elected to Sligo County Council. Ocean FM is a local radio station that broadcasts to parts of the northwest of Ireland. The station covers the area of south County Donegal, north County Leitrim and most of County Sligo and it broadcasts into parts of south-west County Fermanagh. The Sligo Senior Football Championship is an annual Gaelic Athletic Association club competition between the top Sligo clubs. The winners of the Sligo Senior Championship qualify to represent the county in the Connacht Senior Club Football Championship and in turn, go on to the All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship.
