Dussiella
''Dussiella'' is a genus of fungi within the family Clavicipitaceae. The genus name of ''Dussiella'' is in honour of Antoine Duss (1840–1924), who was a Swiss botanist. Antoine Duss
Antoine Düss (August 14, 1840 – May 5, 1924) was a Swiss botanist, Catholic priest, and educator who made contributions to the study of Caribbean flora. Born in Hasle, Switzerland, he joined the Congregation du Saint-Esprit in Paris and was ordained in 1871. Düss taught at educational institutions in Martinique and Guadeloupe, where he conducted botanical research, collecting and cataloguing plant specimens throughout the French Antilles. His major work, "Flore des Antilles françaises," published in 1897, documented the phanerogamic flora of the region, and he later produced catalogues of cryptogams. For his scientific contributions, he was made an Officer of the Academy in 1898, an Officer of Public Instruction in 1905, and was appointed a Knight of the Legion of Honour shortly before his death. Clavicipitaceae
The Clavicipitaceae are a family (biology), family of fungi within the order Hypocreales. A 2008 estimate placed 43 genus, genera in the family, but a study in 2020 has increased this number to 50. Phylogeny Molecular phylogeny, phylogenetic analysis of multigene DNA sequence data indicates the taxon Clavicipitaceae (as circumscribed by 2007) is paraphyletic, and consists of three well-defined cladistics, clades, at least one of which is shared with members of another fungal family (Hypocreaceae). The most recent common ancestor of the three clades also include Hypocreaceae as a descendant. The issue seems to have been resolved in Sung ''et al.'' (2007b). Circumscription (taxonomy)
In biological taxonomy, circumscription is the content of a taxon, that is, the delimitation of which subordinate taxa are parts of that taxon. For example, if we determine that species X, Y, and Z belong in genus A, and species T, U, V, and W belong in genus B, those are our circumscriptions of those two genera. Another systematist might determine that T, U, V, W, X, Y, and Z all belong in genus A. Agreement on circumscriptions is not governed by the Codes of Zoological or Botanical Nomenclature, and must be reached by scientific consensus. A goal of biological taxonomy is to achieve a stable circumscription for every taxon. Narcisse Théophile Patouillard
Narcisse Théophile Patouillard (2 July 1854 – 30 March 1926) was a French pharmacist and mycologist. He was born in Macornay, a town in the department of Jura (department), Jura. He studied in Besançon, then furthered his education at the École Supérieure de Pharmacie in Paris, where in 1884 he earned a diploma with a doctoral thesis involving the structure and classification of Hymenomycetes called "''Des Hyménomycètes au point de vue de leur structure et de leur classification''". With Jacques Emile Doassans he issued the exsiccata ''Champignons figurés et désechés'' (1880-1883). Patouillard was a practicing pharmacist for more than forty years, first in Poligny, Jura, Poligny (1881–84), and later in Fontenay-sous-Bois (1884–85), Paris (1886–1898) and Neuilly-sur-Seine (beginning in 1898). Sordariomycetes Genera
Sordariomycetes is a class of fungi in the subdivision Pezizomycotina (Ascomycota). It is the second-largest class of Ascomycota, with a worldwide distribution that mostly accommodates terrestrial based taxa, although several can also be found in aquatic habitats. Some are phytopathogens that can cause leaf, stem, and root diseases in a wide variety of hosts, while other genera can cause diseases in arthropods and mammals. The name Sordariomycetes is derived from the Latin ''sordes'' (filth) because some species grow in animal feces, though growth habits vary widely across the class.
