Dredger (comics)
"Dredger" is a British comic action story published in the weekly anthologies ''Action'' and '' Battle Action'' from 14 February 1976 to 7 October 1978 by IPC Magazines. The strip focused on the eponymous, uncompromising secret agent and his partner Breed, featuring self-contained stories that featured Dredger getting out of lethal situations with an innovative and violent approach. Creation Left with a short time to create an all-new comic for IPC Magazines and a shortage of suitable writers, Pat Mills and Geoff Kemp soon hit on a formula of repurposing elements of popular films. The character of Harry Callahan from the Dirty Harry film series - which had recently released a third successful instalment, '' The Enforcer'' was the inspiration for Dredger, who was then transplanted into the spy genre. ''Action'' was a British comics, British weekly British boys' magazines, boys' comic published by IPC Media, IPC Magazines from 14 February 1976 to 5 November 1977, when it merged with war comic ''Battle Picture Weekly, Battle'' after 86 issues. The comic was created by Pat Mills and Geoff Kemp. While initially a sales success, the comic quickly received media criticism for its violent content, causing a moral panic that ultimately saw it withdrawn from sale by IPC in October 1976, amid rumours it was to be banned. ''Action'' returned two months later in a much-sanitised form, quickly losing readers and being cancelled the following year. ''Dirty Harry'' is an American action thriller film series featuring San Francisco Police Department Homicide Division Inspector Dirty Harry (character), "Dirty" Harry Callahan. Tabloid journalism is a popular style of largely sensationalist journalism, which takes its name from the tabloid newspaper format: a small-sized newspaper also known as a half broadsheet. The size became associated with sensationalism, and ''tabloid journalism'' replaced the earlier label of ''yellow journalism'' and ''scandal sheets''. Not all newspapers associated with tabloid journalism are tabloid size, and not all tabloid-size newspapers engage in tabloid journalism; since around the year 2000, many broadsheet newspapers converted to the more compact tabloid format. "Hook Jaw" is a British comic adventure story published in the weekly anthology ''Action'' from 14 February to 12 November 1977 by IPC Magazines. The story is centred around a great white shark with a gaff hook lodged in its lower jaw. Created by Pat Mills and Geoff Kemp, the strip largely happened from Hook Jaw's point of view, portraying the shark as a creature simply following its instincts and forever under attack from amoral humans. Mills would later describe it as an ecological story. "Hook Jaw" was heavily criticised by the British tabloid press for its level of violence. Rotherham ( ) is a market town in South Yorkshire, England. ''Starsky & Hutch'' is an American action television series, which consisted of a 72-minute pilot movie (originally aired as a '' Movie of the Week'' entry) and 92 episodes of 50 minutes each. Alexander Minto Hughes (2 May 1945 – 13 March 1998), better known as Judge Dread, was an English reggae and ska musician. He was the first white recording artist to have a reggae hit in Jamaica, and the BBC has banned more of his songs from radio and television than those of any other recording artist, because of his frequent use of sexual innuendo and double entendres. Following his death, ''Rolling Stone'' reported, "He sold several million albums throughout his 25-plus year career and was second only to Bob Marley in U.K. reggae sales during the 1970s".
