Douglas Palm
Douglas Boson Palm (born 6 May 1951) is a former professional tennis player from Sweden. Early life Douglas Boson Palm was born on May 6, 1951 in Flen, Sweden. He grew up in Malmköping. He is the third son of Bo Palm (who died 1973 of ALS) and his wife Ingrid Palm who died (aged 102) in 2021. His brothers are Kjell Palm (died 2020) and Björn-Ulf Palm. Biography Douglas Palm was a quarter-finalist at the Copenhagen Open in 1976. Later in the year he upset Mark Edmondson in the 1976 Swedish Open, then in the 1976 Stockholm Open held a match point in the second round against Mark Cox, who went on to win the tournament. A Swedish Davis Cup representative, Palm was picked to play for his country in a tie against Monaco in Uppsala in April, 1977. 1977 Australian Open (December) – Men's Singles
Vitas Gerulaitis defeated John Lloyd in the final, 6–3, 7–6(7–4), 5–7, 3–6, 6–2 to win the men's singles tennis title at the December 1977 Australian Open. It was his first and only major singles title. Gerulaitis was making his tournament debut. Roscoe Tanner was the defending champion, but lost in the first round to Chris Lewis. Bernard Balleret
Bernard Balleret (born 11 May 1954) is a French-born Monegasque professional tennis player. Balleret participated in the main draw of three French Opens during his career. He lost to American Fred McNair in the opening round of the 1976 French Open and also exited in the first round of the doubles, partnering Louis Borfiga. In 1979 he teamed up with Jacques Thamin and the pair made it to the second round, with a win over the French pairing of Bernard Fritz and Patrick Proisy. He played in the singles at the 1983 French Open but was again defeated in the opening round, this time by Christophe Roger-Vasselin. Over a span of 19 years, Balleret regularly appeared in Davis Cup ties for Monaco, playing a total of 30 ties. He won 21 of his 43 singles rubbers and eight of his 25 doubles matches. Christopher "Buster" Mottram (born 25 April 1955 in Kingston upon Thames) is an English former tennis player and UK number 1, who achieved a career-high singles ranking of world No. 15 on 17 July 1978 and again on 7 February 1983. Alvin Gardiner (born 11 February 1951) is a former professional tennis player from Australia. Career Gardiner was a quarter-finalist in the men's doubles at the 1968 Australian Open with Ross Case. He continued to compete in every Australian Open until 1973, when he began to suffer a series of injuries and illnesses. It started with a season ending collarbone injury, a break that required a bone graft operation in London. When he returned to action he caught glandular fever, in August 1974 he won the Exmouth Open, and then midway through the season he pulled a back muscle. The ITF Grand Prix Circuit was a professional tennis tour for male players founded in 1970 as the ILTF Grand Prix Tennis Circuit it was administered by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and ran annually until 1989 when it and the rival WCT Circuit were replaced by a single world wide ATP Tour. Frank Gebert (born 6 November 1952) is a former professional tennis player from Germany. Biography Gebert lost to Byron Bertram in the boys' singles final at the 1970 Wimbledon Championships. During the 1970s, he competed professionally and he appeared in all four Grand Slam tournaments. He made the third round of the 1976 French Open. His best year on tour was 1977, when he was a finalist at the Cairo Open.
