Dorinda Cox
Dorinda Rose Cox (born 25 May 1976) is an Australian politician who has been a Senator for Western Australia since 2021. A Yamatji and Noongar woman, she is the first Indigenous woman to represent Western Australia in the Senate. She was originally appointed by the Australian Greens to fill the casual vacancy caused by the resignation of Senator Rachel Siewert in 2021, and was then elected as the Greens' lead Senate candidate in Western Australia at the 2022 federal election. She defected from the Greens to join the Labor Party in June 2025. Early life Cox was born on 25 May 1976 in Kojonup, Western Australia. She is a member of the Yamatji and Noongar (Kaniyang and Yued) peoples. Her family has experienced "five generations of child removal in her matriarchal line". 2018 Fremantle By-election
A by-election for the Australian House of Representatives seat of Fremantle took place on Saturday 28 July 2018, following the resignation of incumbent Labor MP Josh Wilson. In early counting, within 90 minutes of the close of polls, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation's psephologist Antony Green's electoral computer had predicted Labor to retain the electorate with an increased margin. Adam Paul Bandt (born 11 March 1972) is an Australian former politician and industrial lawyer who was the leader of the Australian Greens from 2020 to 2025. Lidia Thorpe
Lidia Alma Thorpe (born 18 August 1973) is an Aboriginal Australian ( Gunnai, Gunditjmara and Djab Wurrung) independent politician. She has been a senator for Victoria since 2020 and is the first Aboriginal senator from that state. She was a member of the Australian Greens until February 2023, when she quit the party over disagreements concerning the proposed Indigenous Voice to Parliament, and became a key figure in the "progressive No" campaign for the Voice referendum in October 2023. Thorpe served as the Greens' deputy leader in the Senate from June to October 2022. Thorpe has previously been a member of the Victorian Parliament. Preselection is the process by which a candidate is selected, usually by a political party, to contest an election for political office. It is also referred to as candidate selection. Jandakot is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Western Australia. The district is based in the southern suburbs of Perth and is named for the suburb of Jandakot. The 2017 Western Australian state election was held on Saturday 11 March 2017 to elect members to the Parliament of Western Australia, including all 59 seats in the Legislative Assembly and all 36 seats in the Legislative Council. Our Watch, formerly Foundation to Prevent Violence Against Women and their Children, is an Australian organisation that exists to help prevent violence against women and their children. Founded in mid-2013 with Natasha Stott Despoja as founding chair, the organisation is based in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, Victoria.
