Devil May Hare
''Devil May Hare'' is a 1954 Warner Bros. ''Looney Tunes'' cartoon directed by Robert McKimson. The short was released on June 19, 1954, and stars Bugs Bunny and the Tasmanian Devil making his debut. Plot Bugs is spring cleaning until he is interrupted by a huge variety of animals stampeding in fear. He fails to stop one of them to ask what is going on until he places a shovel in the way of a turtle, who explains that "the Tasmanian Devil's on the loose!". Not knowing what a Tasmanian Devil is, Bugs walks down the stairs into his hole and looks in an encyclopedia. It describes the Tasmanian Devil, or Taz, as a "strong, moiderous beast", with "jaws as powerful as a steel trap" and a "ravenous appetite", who eats a long list of animals. Taz, unknown to Bugs, has spun into the area and is actually standing next to the rabbit as he is reading; the marsupial interjects by writing "and rabbits" at the end of that list. Robert McKimson
Robert Porter McKimson Sr. (October 13, 1910 – September 29, 1977) was an American animator and illustrator, best known for his work on the ''Looney Tunes'' and ''Merrie Melodies'' series of cartoons from Warner Bros. Cartoons and later DePatie–Freleng Enterprises. He wrote and directed many animated cartoon shorts starring Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Foghorn Leghorn, Hippety Hopper, and The Tasmanian Devil (Looney Tunes), Tasmanian Devil, among other characters. He was also well known for defining Bugs Bunny's look in the development of Bugs Bunny, 1943 short ''Tortoise Wins by a Hare''. Career Born in Denver, Colorado, McKimson spent ten years gaining an art education at the Lukits School of Art. ''Bewitched Bunny'' is a 1954 Warner Bros. ''Looney Tunes'' cartoon directed by Chuck Jones and written by Michael Maltese. The short was released on July 24, 1954, and stars Bugs Bunny. Jones created the character Witch Hazel who debuted in this cartoon. Witch Hazel later appeared in '' Broom-Stick Bunny'' (1956), '' A Witch's Tangled Hare'' (1959), and in '' A-Haunting We Will Go'' (1966). ''No Parking Hare'' is a 1954 Warner Bros. ''Looney Tunes'' theatrical animated short, directed by Robert McKimson and written by Sid Marcus. Similar in plot to ''Homeless Hare'', Bugs finds himself squaring off against a construction worker who wants to build over his hole in the ground. Plot Construction is underway for a new freeway. The vibrations wake Bugs and cover him with dirt. Bugs confronts a beefy construction worker (voiced by John T. Smith), and when he realizes that a freeway may be built going through his home, Bugs refuses to move. ''Bill of Hare'' is a 1962 Warner Bros. ''Merrie Melodies'' cartoon directed by Robert McKimson. The short was released on June 9, 1962, and stars Bugs Bunny and the Tasmanian Devil. Plot The cartoon opens in a seaside town where a crate is being unloaded from a cargo ship, belonging to the Snodgrass Scientific Expedition. The net holding the crate breaks, releasing the Tasmanian Devil. Taz comes on shore and smells food being cooked. He sees Bugs Bunny under the pier trying to cook a meal in a kettle. Taz throws Bugs into the pot, but Bugs tricks him into switching places. Bugs puts the pot inside a cannon and fires it like a cannonball into the ocean. ''Ducking The Devil'' is a 1957 Warner Bros. ''Merrie Melodies'' animated cartoon directed by Robert McKimson. The short was released on August 17, 1957, and stars Daffy Duck and the Tasmanian Devil (Looney Tunes), Tasmanian Devil. Plot At a zoo, a Cage (enclosure), cage was reserved for the Tasmanian Devil. He soon escapes and runs amok, scaring away everyone from the zoo in the process. Meanwhile, Daffy is at home in his duck pond, and reads about Taz's escape in a newspaper. Taz soon finds him and gives chase after the black duck. While fleeing from Taz's hungry jaws, Daffy hears a news bulletin posting a $5,000 reward (the equivalent of $45,686.65 in 2022) for the Tasmanian Devil's return which also says Taz becomes docile when exposed to music. ''Bedevilled Rabbit'' is a 1957 Warner Bros. ''Merrie Melodies'' short directed by Robert McKimson. The short was released on April 13, 1957, and stars Bugs Bunny. In this cartoon, Bugs is lost in Tasmania, and has to deal with the Tasmanian Devil. Plot After a box of carrots is dropped into the middle of a jungle in Tasmania, Bugs pops out, wondering how he went from sleeping in a carrot patch to the middle of Tasmania. Suddenly, a group of animals (both wild and domesticated) come running through the woods, scared for their lives (Bugs mistakes it for "chow time at the zoo"). A crocodile (who turns himself inside out into a bag for a disguise) hands Bugs a booklet talking about the Tasmanian devil and the many things it eats.
