Derry County Hurling Team
The Derry county hurling team represents Derry GAA, the county board of the Gaelic Athletic Association, in the Gaelic sport of hurling. The team competes in the Christy Ring Cup and the National Hurling League. Derry's home ground is Celtic Park, Derry. The team's managers are Dominic McKinley and Cormac Donnelly. The team last won the Ulster Senior Championship in 2001, but has never won the All-Ireland Senior Championship or the National League. History Derry was a hotbed of early hurling activity, with the city's St Patrick's club winning the Ulster Senior Hurling Championship in 1902–03; county teams mainly drawn from the city won the 1906 championship by a walkover, and the contested 1909 final. However, soon afterwards football become the dominant sport in the county, and hurling activity declined, especially in the city where association football clubs were active. Ulster Minor Hurling Championship
The Ulster Hurling Minor Championship is an annual hurling competition organised by the Ulster Council of the Gaelic Athletic Association since 1930 for the youngest competitors (under-18) in the province of Ulster in Ireland. It is sponsored by the Electricity Supply Board and therefore officially known as the ESB Ulster GAA Hurling Minor Championship. The series of games are played during the summer months with the Ulster final currently being played on the last Sunday of June. The minor final provides the curtain-raiser to the senior final. The prize for the winning team is the Minor Hurling Cup. The Ulster Championship is a part of the wider All-Ireland Minor Hurling Championship. The winners of the Ulster final advance directly to the quarter-final stage of the All-Ireland series of games. Brian McGilligan
Brian McGilligan (born 19 December 1963) is an Irish former dual player of Gaelic games, who played Gaelic football at senior level for the Derry county team in the 1980s and 1990s, especially the 1993 team. He was part of Derry's 1993 All-Ireland Championship winning side and also won two Ulster Championships with the side. For his performances in the 1987 and 1993 Championships he won two All Star awards. In addition to Gaelic football, McGilligan also played hurling for Derry. He played club football for St Canice's GAC Dungiven and hurling for Kevin Lynch's. After being part of the backroom staff for 2007, he was appointed Derry Senior and Under 21 hurling manager for 2008. In September 2008 he announced his interest in the vacant Derry Senior football manager's job. He was also a selector on the Derry Under 21 team which won the Ulster Under 21 and All-Ireland Under 21 Championships in 1997. Kevin McNaughton (hurler)
Kevin Paul McNaughton (born 28 August 1982) is a Scottish professional football player and coach. A versatile player able to play anywhere in defence, McNaughton was also used in a defensive midfield role. He began his career in the Scottish Premier League, playing for Aberdeen for six years. He joined Cardiff City in 2006, spending nine years at the Welsh side, making over 250 appearances. He had two loan spells at Bolton Wanderers before joining Wigan Athletic on a permanent basis in 2015. Christopher "Chrissy" McKaigue (born 13 July 1989) is an Irish Gaelic footballer who plays for the Derry county team. McKaigue plays club football and hurling for Slaughtneil Robert Emmet's. Brendan Rogers (dual Player)
Brendan Rogers (born April 1994) is a dual player of Gaelic games, i.e. hurling and Gaelic football, who plays for Derry Championship club Slaughtneil and the Derry senior teams. Career Rogers first came to prominence as a dual player at club level with Slaughtneil. He has been involved during a golden age for the club and lined out when the club lost the All-Ireland club football finals in 2015 and 2017. Cormac O'Doherty (born 1996) is a dual player of Gaelic games, i.e. hurling and Gaelic football, who plays for Derry Championship club Slaughtneil and at inter-county level for the Derry senior hurling team. He usually lines out at midfield and is captain of the team for the 2021 season. Career O'Doherty first came to Gaelic games prominence as a student at St Patrick's College in Maghera, winning consecutive MacRory Cup titles and a Hogan Cup title in 2013. He joined the Slaughtneil senior hurling and football teams. Since his debut as a dual player, he won six Ulster Club Championship titles and 13 County Championship titles across both codes.
