Dernekpazarı (formerly: ''Kondu'', ''Kondualtı'') is a municipality and Districts of Turkey, district of Trabzon Province, Turkey. Its area is 89 km2, and its population is 3,761 (2022). The current mayor of the town is Mehmet Aşık (Justice and Development Party (Turkey), AKP). Dernekpazarı is part of the Solaklı river valley system; it lies between the coastal Of, Turkey, Of district and the alpine Çaykara, Çaykara district. History The history of Dernekpazarı is closely related to the history of the Trabzon, the largest city of the Black Sea Region. Depending who ruled the Trabzon Province, the hill country came under Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman sovereignty. The population consisted largely of Pontic Greeks who converted to Islam during the 17th and 18th centuries. Pontic Greek
Pontic Greek (, ; or ''Romeika'') is a variety of Modern Greek indigenous to the Pontus region on the southern shores of the Black Sea, northeastern Anatolia, and the Eastern Turkish and Caucasus region. An endangered Greek language variety, Pontic Greek is spoken by about 778,000 people worldwide, who are known as Pontic or Pontian Greeks. Like nearly all of Greek varieties spoken today, the linguistic lineage of Pontic Greek stems from the Hellenistic Koine, itself based on Attic–Ionic Greek, which later developed into the Byzantine Greek of the Middle Ages. Following its geographic isolation from the rest of the Greek–speaking world, Pontic continued to develop separately along with other Anatolian Greek dialects, like Cappadocian, from the 11th century onwards. Tüfekçi, Dernekpazarı
Tüfekçi () is a neighbourhood of the municipality and district of Dernekpazarı, Trabzon Province, Turkey. Its population is 156 (2022). "Tüfekçi" literally means "riflemen" or "gunsmith" in Turkish, evidently referring to the profession of at least some early inhabitants of the village. Tüfekçi's older name was Arsela. Perhaps coincidentally, a village named Arşela existed on the west coast of the Black Sea. Arsela is a place that was mentioned in a panegyric text written for the Thracian god Sabazius. It takes the form of Arselenos on another epitaph, which was found in Nova Zagora. Ivan Duridanov has claimed that the river names Arsio, Arse in Old Prussia, Arsen and Arsia in Latvia and Arsina in Germany are derivation of the root ors-, ers “(for water) flow, damp” in the Indo-European language family (Hindi arşati) and ars- in the Thracian language. Of (, possibly from ''Ophious'') is a municipality and district of Trabzon Province, Turkey. Its area is 258 km2, and its population is 43,591 (2022). It is located in the eastern part of the province and is an important historical district of the province. The mayor is Salim Salih Sarıalioğlu ( AKP). Etymology There are several stories about the origins of Of's name. Of was called Ofis in 1910 by Pontic Greek speaking inhabitants. According to another view it means "village" or "settlement" in the Laz language (Laz: ''ოფუტე/oput'e''), as the old name of the town is mentioned as "Opiunte" on the Tabula Peutingeriana. Çaykara
Çaykara (Pontic Greek#Ophitic, Romeika: Κατωχώρι, ''Kadahor'') is a municipality and Districts of Turkey, district of Trabzon Province, Turkey. Its area is 574 km2, and its population is 13,070 (2022). As of 2023, the Mayor of Çaykara is Hanefi Tok (Justice and Development Party (Turkey), AKP). Çaykara village lies in a V-shaped valley along the Solaklı River in the Pontic Mountains, at an elevation of around 300 metres. Çaykara district lies to the south of Dernekpazarı (Kondu) and forms the upper part of the Of-valley system ('Solaklı Vadisi' in Turkish), with peaks reaching to over 3300 meters. The 1923 population exchange between Greece and Turkey stemmed from the "Convention Concerning the Exchange of Greek and Turkish Populations" signed at Lausanne, Switzerland, on 30 January 1923, by the governments of Greece and Turkey. It involved at least 1.6 million people (1,221,489 Greek Orthodox from Asia Minor, Eastern Thrace, the Pontic Alps and the Caucasus, and 355,000–400,000 Muslims from Greece), most of whom were forcibly made refugees and ''de jure'' denaturalized from their homelands. Köppen Climate Classification
The Köppen climate classification divides Earth climates into five main climate groups, with each group being divided based on patterns of seasonal precipitation and temperature.
