Dennis Burgess
Dennis Burgess (18 February 1926 – 3 November 1980) was a British television actor born in Neath, Glamorgan, Wales. He married Glenys Maria Hare at Neath, in 1958. Burgess came from Port Talbot, attended Port Talbot Secondary School and worked as a drama teacher for most of his adult life. He dedicated a lot of his time to helping his father care for his invalid mother, and it wasn't until after she had died that Burgess became a professional actor at 47 years of age, moving from Wales to the south east of England. His first professional role was in the film ''Bluebeard'' (1972) starring his boyhood friend Richard Burton, who had helped him into the profession. Burton and Burgess had remained great friends, and a series of letters written by the screen legend to his old friend have previously been exhibited at the National Library of Wales at Aberystwyth. Neath (; ) is a market town and Community (Wales), community situated in the Neath Port Talbot, Neath Port Talbot County Borough, Wales. The town had a population of 50,658 in 2011. ''The Elephant Man'' is a 1980 biographical drama film loosely based on the life of Joseph Merrick (named "John" in the film), a severely deformed man who lived in London in the late 19th century. The film was directed by David Lynch, produced by Jonathan Sanger, and executive produced by Mel Brooks (who was uncredited, to avoid audiences anticipating the film being in the vein of his comedic works, although his company Brooksfilms is in the opening credits). ''Triangle'' is a BBC Television soap opera broadcast in the early 1980s, set aboard a North Sea ferry that sailed from Felixstowe to Gothenburg and Gothenburg to Amsterdam. A third imaginary leg existed between Amsterdam and Felixstowe to justify the programme's title, but this was not operated by the ferry company. The show ran for three series before being cancelled, but is still generally remembered as "some of the most mockable British television ever produced". The scripts involved clichéd relationships and stilted dialogue, making the show the butt of several jokes—particularly on Terry Wogan's morning Radio 2 programme—which caused some embarrassment to the BBC. ''Fox'' is a British drama television series produced by Euston Films and Thames Television for the ITV network in 1980. Consisting of thirteen episodes, it recounted the lives of the titular Fox family, who lived in Clapham in South London and had gangland connections. It was notable in that it was an early work that featured the criminal as the protagonist. The series was written by Trevor Preston, for which he received the 1981 Bafta Television Writers' Award. It was produced by Verity Lambert and directed by Jim Goddard. Goddard noted that a dominant theme of the show was loyalty. ''Within These Walls'' is a British television drama programme made by London Weekend Television for ITV and shown between 1974 and 1978. It portrayed life in HMP Stone Park, a fictional women's prison. Unlike later women-in-prison TV series, '' Bad Girls'' (ITV, 1999–2006), and Australian series, ''Prisoner'' (aka ''Prisoner: Cell Block H'', Grundy Organisation, original run: 1979–1986), and '' Wentworth'' (2013–2021), ''Within These Walls'' tended to centre its story-lines around the prison staff rather than the inmates.
