Denise Drysdale
Denise Anne Christina Drysdale (born 5 December 1948) is an Australian television presenter, variety entertainer, actress, singer, dancer and comedian. She is often affectionately known as "Ding Dong", a nickname invented by fellow performer Ernie Sigley. She was formerly a co-host of the morning show ''Studio 10''. Early life Childhood Born in the Melbourne suburb of Moorabbin, Drysdale and her family moved to Port Melbourne when she was three-and-a-half, where her parents ran the Fountain Inn Hotel. They lived there for eleven years, during which time Drysdale attended Kilbride Ladies Convent, South Melbourne. Career beginnings Drysdale's career began soon after the move to Port Melbourne. The TV Week Logie Awards (known colloquially as The Logies) is an annual ceremony celebrating and honouring the best shows and stars in Australian television, sponsored and organised by the magazine ''TV Week''. ''In Melbourne Tonight'', also known as ''IMT'', was a highly popular nightly Logie award-winning Australian variety show, variety television show produced at GTV-9 Melbourne from 6 May 1957 to 1970. Overview Graham Kennedy was the show's main host and star attraction, but other presenters were often called on to present the show on certain nights. ''In Melbourne Tonight'' had as many as 50 different presenters over its 13 years on air. The format of the show was inspired by the American ''The Tonight Show'' on NBC, but Kennedy's exuberant charisma was the key to the success of ''IMT''. ''Dig We Must'' was an Australian music television show broadcast by the ABC in 1966. Hosted by Bobby & Laurie it began on August 26. The half hour show was produced by Barry Langford and aimed at a teenage audience. Filmed in Melbourne it featured a 14 piece band, dancers and guest singers mixed in with comedy sketches. Monitor in The Age called it an "essay on erotic". Valda Marshall of The Sydney Morning Herald it relied "too heavily on the same tired old formula" of other shows like Hullabaloo. Go-Go Dancing
Go-go dancers are dancers who are employed to entertain crowds at nightclubs or other venues where music is played. Go-go dancing originated in the early 1960s at the French bar Whisky a Gogo, located in the town of Juan-les-Pins. The bar's name was taken from the French title of the Scottish comedy film ''Whisky Galore! (1949 film), Whisky Galore!'' The French bar then licensed its name to the West Hollywood rock club Whisky a Go Go, which opened in January 1964 and chose the name to reflect the already popular craze of go-go dancing. Many 1960s-era nightclub dancers wore short, fringed skirts and high boots which eventually came to be called go-go boots. ''Kommotion'' was a popular Australian "Top 40" pop music TV show that premiered in December 1964. The program was hosted by popular disc jockey Ken Sparkes, who was one of the main presenters at Melbourne pop radio station 3UZ. In 1965, after the end of his previous series, '' Teen Scene'', pop singer Johnny Chester became the associate producer of the program. It was produced by the Willard King organisation for Melbourne TV station ATV-0 (Channel 0) and was pre-recorded on videotape at the station's Nunawading studio. Peter Philip Smith Order of Australia, OAM (born 29 May 1939) is a retired Australian radio announcer and television voice-over artist. He is primarily known for his work with GTV-9 in Melbourne as their chief staff announcer, including being the announcer on the nationally screened quiz show ''Sale of the Century'' for 21 years. During his school years, Smith constructed a makeshift radio station from his parents' house narrowcast over bell wire.
