Deceptive Records
Deceptive Records was a British independent record label formed in 1993 by Steve Lamacq, Tony Smith and Alan James, which concentrated on rock and alternative rock. The most famous group signed to the label were Elastica. Steve Lamacq left the company after the release of Elastica's first album to avoid accusations of partiality on the Evening Session, his BBC Radio 1 show. Owing to financial struggles, the label closed down on 4 February 2001. Gene (band)
Gene are a British rock band that rose to prominence in the mid-1990s. Formed in 1993, they were categorized by the UK music press as a Britpop band and were often drawn comparisons to the Smiths because of the similarities to Morrissey in the demeanour and lyrical style of lead singer Martin Rossiter. Gene's music was influenced by The Jam, The Smiths, The Style Council, The Faces and The Clash. The band split at the end of 2004. History The Go Hole and Sp!n Gene's origins lie in a previous band which was first called The Go Hole, named after a fictional " Beat" club in John Clellon Holmes' novel '' Go''. Earl Brutus
Earl Brutus were a British indie rock band that emerged in the 1990s. They were formed in 1993 by English musician Nick Sanderson, Rob Marche (formerly of JoBoxers and If?), Jamie Fry (brother of Martin Fry and formerly of World of Twist) and Stuart Boreman. Boreman left after the release of their first single "Life's Too Long" and was replaced by Gordon King, who had been in World of Twist with Fry. A prisoner, also known as an inmate or detainee, is a person who is deprived of liberty against their will. This can be by confinement or captivity in a prison or physical restraint. The term usually applies to one serving a sentence in prison. English law "Prisoner" is a legal term for a person who is imprisoned. In section 1 of the Prison Security Act 1992, the word "prisoner" means any person for the time being in a prison as a result of any requirement imposed by a court or otherwise that he be detained in legal custody. "Prisoner" was a legal term for a person prosecuted for felony. It was not applicable to a person prosecuted for misdemeanour. Spare Snare
Spare Snare is a lo-fi band from Dundee, Scotland, who were voted as the 46th best Scottish band of all time. Founded in the early 1990s, the band have released 12 albums and 2 compilations to date, released on their own Chute Records, or licensed to another label. They have also recorded four John Peel Sessions. In the 1995 John Peel Festive 50, the band were number 32 with "Bugs". Spare Snare have been cited as an influence on acts such as Snow Patrol and the Fence Collective. Along with Mogwai, The Delgados, Bis, Arab Strap, Urusei Yatsura, Ganger and Long Fin Killie, Spare Snare were part of the mid 1990s 'New Scottish Underground' scene. Placebo ( ) are a British alternative rock band, formed in London in 1994 by vocalist–guitarist Brian Molko and bassist–guitarist Stefan Olsdal, and in late 1994 Robert Schultzberg joined as drummer. Molko was born in Belgium and Olsdal and Schultzberg in Sweden; Molko and Olsdal grew up in Luxembourg before separately relocating to London and becoming British citizens. Schultzberg left the band in 1996 shortly after the release of the band's Placebo (Placebo album), eponymous debut album due to conflicts with Molko, and was replaced the same year by Steve Hewitt. Idlewild (band)
Idlewild are a Scottish rock band formed in Edinburgh in 1995. The band's line-up consists of Roddy Woomble (lead vocals), Rod Jones (guitar, backing vocals), Colin Newton (drums), Andrew Mitchell (bass), and Luciano Rossi (keyboards). To date, Idlewild have released nine full-length studio albums. Initially, Idlewild's sound was faster and more dissonant than many of their 1990s indie rock contemporaries. However, it developed over time from an edgy and angular sound (as heard in their early material—once described by the NME as "the sound of a flight of stairs falling down a flight of stairs") to a sweeping, melodic rock sound as displayed on '' The Remote Part'' and ''Warnings/Promises''.
