Idlewild (band)
Idlewild are a Scottish rock band formed in Edinburgh in 1995. The band's line-up consists of Roddy Woomble (lead vocals), Rod Jones (guitar, backing vocals), Colin Newton (drums), Andrew Mitchell (bass), and Luciano Rossi (keyboards). To date, Idlewild have released nine full-length studio albums. Initially, Idlewild's sound was faster and more dissonant than many of their 1990s indie rock contemporaries. However, it developed over time from an edgy and angular sound (as heard in their early material—once described by the NME as "the sound of a flight of stairs falling down a flight of stairs") to a sweeping, melodic rock sound as displayed on '' The Remote Part'' and ''Warnings/Promises''. In 2010, the band entered an indefinite hiatus, but reunited in late 2013 to record their seventh album, '' Everything Ever Written'', released in 2015. King Tut's Wah Wah Hut
King Tut's Wah Wah Hut, also known as King Tut's, is a live music venue and bar on St. Vincent Street, Glasgow, Scotland. It is owned and managed by Glasgow-based gig promoters DF Concerts. The Glasgow live music venue takes its name from a club in New York that hosted music, comedy and performing arts events in the 1980s. History King Tut's was founded, in the former Saints and Sinners pub in St Vincent Street in the centre of Glasgow, by the DF Concerts boss Stuart Clumpas, who wanted to create a platform for promoting bands at club level, showcasing them with gigs seven days a week at a reasonable hour, after being unable to find such an establishment in the city centre's nightlife. The venue first opened its doors in February 1990, and has established a reputation for showcasing new talent and hosting many well-known bands' first Scottish appearances. Turn (band)
Turn are an Republic of Ireland, Irish musical ensemble, band. History Turn formed in 1998 when lead singer/guitarist Ollie Cole and drummer Ian Melady joined forces with Dublin bass player Gavin Fox (musician), Gavin Fox, whom they met at a local recording studio. Cole and Melady had been friends since youth and had previously formed Pixies (band), Pixies-influenced punk band ''Swampshack''. Through frantic gigging and the release of a few choice 7" singles, Turn started to earn a name for themselves and soon found themselves signed to Infectious Records. Their debut album, ''Antisocial'', soon followed and Turn looked to be on their way to stardom. Infectious, however, were not too interested in releasing any singles from the album and Turn soon found themselves in record company limbo once again. Everything Ever Written
''Everything Ever Written'' is the eighth studio album by Scottish indie rock band Idlewild, released on 16 February 2015 on Empty Words Records. Produced by guitarist Rod Jones, the album was recorded after a lengthy hiatus, during which the future of the band was uncertain. The album is the first to feature keyboardist Luciano Rossi and guitarist and bassist Andrew Mitchell. Background In 2009, Idlewild released its crowd-funded sixth studio album, '' Post Electric Blues''. By the end of the following year, the band embarked upon an "indefinite hiatus" after touring commitments ceased. Vocalist Roddy Woomble noted, "My interest was kind of decreasing with what, latterly, we did with Idlewild, because it was very traddy rock-band, you know, rhythm player, lead player, bass, drums – I think we made some great records like that and had some great concerts, but I wasn't interested in doing that." Warnings/Promises
''Warnings/Promises'' is the fourth studio album by Scottish rock band Idlewild, released on 7 March 2005 by Parlophone. Following the release of their third studio album '' The Remote Part'' (2002), Gavin Fox replaced bassist Bob Fairfoull, and touring guitarist Allan Stewart became a permanent member. They spent the majority of 2003 writing material, before traveling to Malmö, Sweden to record at Tambourine Studios with producer Dave Eringa. After finishing five tracks, they went to Los Angeles to work at Sunset Sound Recorders with producer Tony Hoffer. Due to the laidback nature of the sessions, the band had to re-record everything; recording concluded in October 2004. Described as a college rock and folk rock album, ''Warnings/Promises'' emphasized more acoustic instrumentation than its predecessor. The Remote Part
''The Remote Part'' is the third studio album by Scottish rock band Idlewild, released on 15 July 2002 by Parlophone. As they were becoming increasingly aware of their label's interest in them and their demos, the band's musical direction was being steered by guitarist Rod Jones. For the first half of 2001, the band recorded songs with producers Stephen Street and Lenny Kaye. Due to the uneven nature of the songs done between tours, they spent some time reworking 20 tracks in the Scottish Highlands. They recorded at Rockfield Studios in Wales, RAK Studios in London, and Sawmills Studios in Cornwall with producer Dave Eringa. Described as an alternative rock and indie rock record, it lacked the punk rock elements of their previous work. Indie Rock
Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United Kingdom, United States and New Zealand in the early to mid-1980s. Although the term was originally used to describe rock music released through independent record labels, by the 1990s it became more widely associated with the music such bands produced. The sound of indie rock has its origins in the New Zealand Dunedin sound of the Chills, Tall Dwarfs, the Clean and the Verlaines, and early 1980s college rock radio stations who would frequently play jangle pop bands like the Smiths and R.E.M. Bob Fairfoull
Robert James "Bob" Fairfoull (born 6 August 1976) is a Scottish musician. He was the bass guitarist for the Scottish rock band Idlewild. He attended Portobello High School in Edinburgh between 1992–96 and was in the same class as Paul Thomson, the drummer from the band Franz Ferdinand. Roddy Woomble - a friend of Fairfoull and Idlewild's lead singer - asked Fairfoull to join in February 1997 following the departure of Phil Scanlon. His appearance and attitude are classically punk rock and his typical on-stage antics consist of head-banging and jumping around. Fairfoull became increasingly distant from the band in 2002, often going drinking on his own after shows and sitting separately on their tour bus. Gavin Bernard Fox (born 1979) is bass player with the band Concerto for Constantine. Allan Stewart (musician)
Allan William Stewart (born 21 January 1977 in Coventry, England) is an English musician. He is the second guitarist in Idlewild, the bassist in Holy Mountain and guitarist for the band Desalvo. In recent years, he joined the Nine Inch Nails crew, for whom he is Stage Manager. He grew up in Farnborough, Hampshire. Stewart joined Idlewild as a touring guitarist in 2000 and became a full member in 2003, supporting Pearl Jam on a world tour amongst other crowning achievements. Stewart features on the Idlewild albums ''Warnings/Promises'', '' Make Another World'' and '' Post Electric Blues,'' of which, on the latter he is also pictured on the cover. He co-wrote "I Never Wanted" on ''The Remote Part''. Following Idlewild's hiatus in 2010, Stewart joined Glasgow band Holy Mountain with Pete Flett (drums) and Andy McGlone (vocals).
